An evacuated envelope having a front wall encloses a plurality of electron beam guides. Extending across one end of the beam guides is a line cathode which generates a plurality of electron beams and directs the beams into the guides. A pair of parallel modulation electrodes is associated with each beam guide and is positioned with the cathode between them. Each modulation electrode partially overlaps the associated electron beam guide. A cathodoluminescent screen is on the front wall.

Guided beam display device

A cathodoluminescent display device is composed of a plurality of channels. Each of the channels includes spaced guide meshes between which electrons from an electron gun are propagated as beams. At the end of the channels away from the electron gun is a collector and a deflection electrode. The guide meshes are extended between the collector and deflection electrode. Collection apertures in the extended portions pass electrons to the collector. Collection of the electrons by the collector generates a signal which is sensed and used to maintain uniformity of the characteristics of the beams.

Electron current collector for flat panel display devices

An evacuated envelope is divided into a plurality of electron propagation channels. Each channel includes an electron gun section and a beam guide section. The electron gun section provides electrons in the form of beams to the guide section. The guide section includes spaced guide meshes and the electrons are propagated along the channel in the space between the guide meshes. A launch section, in the form of at least one pair of launch electrodes, is arranged between the electron gun section and the beam guide section. The conditions under which electrons leave the gun section and enter the guide section are selected by the application of selected voltages to the launch electrodes.

Modulator with variable launch conditions for multi-electron gun display

An envelope of a display device includes a rear wall and a front wall having a cathodoluminescent screen thereon. Within the envelope are a plurality of electron beam guides and means for extracting electron beams out of the guide at various points. The electron beam guide comprises a first guide grid parallel to and spaced from the rear wall and a guide grid structure between the first grid and the front wall. Although there are unequal electric fields on the front and rear sides of the beam guide, the first guide grid and the guide grid structure maintain symmetry of the electric fields within the guide.

Proximity focused element scale image display device

An evacuated envelope includes front and back walls and a plurality of spaced, parallel supports between, and perpendicular thereto which form a plurality of parallel channels. A gun structure at one end of the channels directs one or more electron beams along each of the channels. In each of the channels is at least one beam guide which confines the electrons of the beam but permits selective deflection of the electron beam out of the guide toward a phosphor screen on the inner surface of the front wall. The beam guide includes electrodes on the inner surface of the back wall and either a single grid plate or a pair of spaced, parallel grid plates spaced from and parallel to the back wall. The beam guide also includes means for laterally confining the electrons of the beam which may include spaced parallel wires between the back wall and the grid plates and extending along the channel or a special configuration of the electrodes on the back wall.
