The invention relates to a method and a device, suitable for the measurement of quantitative photon absorption coefficient in tissue, wherein the device comprises a first light source, suitable for generating photons, a light measurement element suitable for measuring at least one of: the intensity, the frequency, the frequency deviations and phase shift of the light to be measured, an ultrasound source, suitable for the generation of a defined sound wave pattern in a defined volume element within the tissue, wherein the ultrasound source is suitable for labelling the light, originating from the first light source or a second light source that enters the defined volume element within the tissue, and an ultrasound measurement element, suitable for measuring ultrasound, originating from the defined volume element within the tissue and generated by the light of the first light source that enters the defined volume element within the tissue.

Laser Doppler Perfusion Imaging system including a laser light source (), an image detector (), and signal detector (); the laser light source (), in use, being arranged for illuminating a selected area of interest () on a sample () for determining perfusion related data of the sample (), the image detector, in use, being arranged for capturing an image of the sample (), and the signal detector (), in use, being arranged for detecting a laser Doppler signal from the selected area of interest () on the sample (), wherein the laser light source () comprises optical means () for creating a laser beam comprising a plurality of beams.

Laser doppler perfusion imaging with a plurality of beams

The invention relates to an optical phantom that is suitable for simulating the optical properties of biological material and to a method of producing said phantom. The phantom is comprised of a matrix of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and spherical particles whose refractive index differs from that of the PVA. Preferably the PVA has a level of hydrolysis of >98%. Preferably the spherical particles are hollow polystyrene particles. In addition, light-absorbing and light-scattering substances may be added to the matrix.
