A multi-component fiber includes a first component made of a first fiber raw material and a second component made of a second fiber raw material. The first and second components are combined by rotational spinning so as to form a fiber body.

Multi-component fibers produced by a rotational spinning method

A plurality of fibers or one-dimensional, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional fibrous structures are provided, having fibers from a first raw fiber material. The first raw fiber material contains unsubstituted or partially substituted polyvinyl alcohol and/or unsubstituted or partially substituted polyvinyl alcohol copolymer. The fibers can be crosslinked by tempering the fibers or fibrous structures, with the result that the fibers or the fibrous structure are configured to be gel, in particular hydrogel, fibers or fibrous structures and have excellent stability.

Fibers or one-dimensional, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional fibrous structures configured to be hydrogelling, produced from fibers made of a first fiber raw material, whereby the first fiber raw material contains water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol and/or polyvinyl alcohol copolymer, whereby the hydrogelling configuration of the fibers or fibrous structures is achieved by tempering the fiber raw material at a predetermined tempering temperature that is preferably higher than the glass transition temperature and/or lower than the melting or decomposition temperature of the first fiber raw material employed, as well as by tempering for a predetermined tempering duration, and whereby the fiber raw material is cross-linked by the tempering.
