The invention relates to absorptive, crosslinked polymers which are based on partly neutralized, monoethylenically unsaturated monomers carrying acid groups, and have improved properties, in particular in respect of their capacity for transportation of liquids in the swollen state, and which has a high gel bed permeability and high centrifuge retention capacity.

Superabsorbent polymer with high permeability

An absorbent structure made at least in part from a superabsorbent material having a retention capacity (CRC) as determined by a Centrifuge Retention Capacity Test of at least about 25 g/g and a free swell gel bed permeability (GBP) as determined by a Free Swell Gel Bed Permeability Test of at least 575&#xd7;10cm. In another embodiment, the absorbent structure is made at least in part from a superabsorbent material having a retention capacity (CRC) as determined by a Centrifuge Retention Capacity Test of at least about 25 g/g, an absorbency under load (AUL) at 0.9 psi as determined by an Absorbency Under Load Test of at least 18 and a free swell gel bed permeability (GBP) as determined by a Free Swell Gel Bed Permeability Test of at least about 350&#xd7;10cm.

Absorbent structure with superabsorbent material

The invention relates to a superabsorbent polymer wherein an increased rate of water absorption is obtained by the addition of an encapsulated blowing agent. The invention relates to a superabsorbent polymer including an encapsulating blowing agent and having a vortex time of 40 seconds or less. In particular, the superabsorbent polymer includes from about 55 to about 99.9 wt. % of polymerizable unsaturated acid group containing monomers; from about 0.001 to about 5.0 wt. % of internal crosslinking agent; wherein the wherein the composition has a degree of neutralization of more than about 20%; and from about 0.05 to about 10.0 wt. % of an encapsulated blowing agent.

Superabsorbent polymer having increased rate of water absorption

A composite of a substrate having an application of superabsorbent polymer. The composite is made by applying, directly onto the substrate, an application of a polymer that will, upon being subjected to radiation, convert to a superabsorbent polymer. The substrate with applied polymer is subjected to radiation, such as being heated at a sufficient temperature for a sufficient time, to obtain the composite of substrate with superabsorbent polymer adhered to it.

In the prevention of the spread of fires and for directly fighting fires, a cross-linked, water-swellable additive polymer in water/oil emulsion produced by an inverse phase polymerization reaction to be added to the firefighting water is disclosed. The additive has the properties of absorbing large quantities of water, high viscosity for adherence to vertical and horizontal surfaces, and retention of sufficient fluidity to be educted in standard firefighting equipment. The method of adding this additive to the firefighting water by eduction or by a batch addition to the water source is also disclosed.

Water additive and method for fire prevention and fire extinguishing

A particulate material composition of superabsorbent polymer particles, wherein less than about 60% by weight of the superabsorbent polymer particles will pass through a U.S. Standard 50 mesh sieve. The composition has anti-caking properties and also reduced dusting. The composition can be produced by mixing the superabsorbent polymer particles with an inorganic powder, such as clay.
