A battery comprises a battery cell having two voltage terminals and a flexible sidewall; a wall structure against which the battery cell is located, the wall structure including a sidewall that is adjacent to the sidewall of the battery cell; and a tooth structure that extends away from the sidewall of the wall structure and towards the sidewall of the battery cell, wherein the tooth structure includes a distal end sufficiently sharp to puncture the flexible sidewall of the battery cell when the flexible sidewall of the battery cell is forced up against the tooth structure due to a build up of excess pressure inside the battery cell.

There is provided a stacked lithium secondary battery in which a plurality of cathode plates and a plurality of anode plates are alternatively facing each other, and its fabrication method. The method comprises adhering a plurality of anode plates to a portion of one surface of a separator onto which the anode plates are neighboring one another, adhering a plurality of cathode plates to a portion of the other surface of the separator onto which the cathode plates are neighboring one another, covering either the cathode or anode plates with the separator by folding the portion to which no electrode plate is adhered, successively folding the separator in a fixed one-direction along folding lines formed between the electrode plates to obtain a stacked body, and housing the obtained stacked body within a pouch, followed by injection of an electrolyte solution and packaging. The method simplifies the folding process by a fixed one-directional folding rather than a zig-zag folding, and reduces the scale of a facility required for the adhesion process by minimizing the length occupied by the electrode plates. Further, the separator can be tightly fastened such that the charge/discharge characteristics and cycle life of the battery can be enhanced, compared to a zig-zag folding.

There is provided a supercapacitor with a significantly reduced internal resistance. The supercapacitor comprises two electrodes in which each of the two electrodes is comprised of a current collector and an electrode active material adhered to the current collector, a separator positioned between the two electrodes, an electrolyte and a package, wherein the current collector is a metal thin plate having a conductive metal oxide layer thereon and the electrode active material is adhered on a surface of the conductive metal oxide layer. The supercapacitor according to the present invention has a significantly reduced internal resistance and a highly enhanced charge capacitance.

The present invention relates to an uninterruptible power supply, more specifically, to an uninterruptible power supply for the backup of AC-power supply which comprises an electric double layer capacitor as an energy storage device. The uninterruptible power supply according to the present invention comprises an AC power source, a AC/DC converter which converts an AC input from the AC power source into an DC power, an energy storage device which stores an extra electric energy and a DC/AC inverter which converts DC input from the energy storage device into AC power and supplies the AC power to an output load at a power interruption, wherein the energy storage device is an electric double layer capacitor and a ratio of charging voltage of the electric double layer capacitor to a minimum operating voltage of the DC/AC inverter is adjusted to 1.3 times or higher. The uninterruptible power supply has highly enhanced energy efficiency and power backup time, compared even to the conventional DC power backup system such that efficient power backup can be achieved.
