A liquid ammonia stream is mixed with a crude oil stream which contains naphthenic acids. Ammonium naphthenates are formed which are then separated from the crude oil with the ammonia. The naphthanates are converted back to acids by addition of acetic acid. Calcium hydroxide is added to form calcium naphthenates and the mixture is pyrolysized which produces ketones.

An electronic switching circuit with driver which may be used to turn on an incandescent light after a predetermined delay and which circuit output may be utilized to trigger either itself or a like circuit connected in series. This invention concerns a coolant system for a vehicle which possesses a radiator and an excess coolant reservoir to reduce the content of oxygen in the radiator cooling system. An exhaust vent tube communicates with ambient air and the excess coolant reservoir to expel gases generated during engine startup and continuous use. A vacuum exhaust valve is situated in the exhaust vent tube to provide for the expulsion of gas and acts, during engine cool down, to pass exhaust gas to the excess coolant reservoir. This invention situates an adsorption zone, preferably comprised of activated carbon, intermediate the exhaust vent tube and the excess coolant reservoir to adsorb a large quantity of the oxygen being passed to the excess coolant reservoir during cool down periods. Once spent of its adsorption qualities, the adsorbent in the adsorption zone is regenerated by contact with automotive engine exhaust gas at a temperature of between 140.degree. C. and 150.degree. C.

A process is disclosed for deactivating or removing aromatic compounds from a kerosene or gas oil, which aromatics are coke precursors in a steam cracking process (conducted in the absence of a catalyst) to convert the hydrocarbons contained in the kerosene or gas oil to hydrocarbons of smaller molecules. The excising occurs by contacting the kerosene or gas oil, before admission to the steam cracking zone, with particulate size activated carbon of 4 mesh to 50 mesh size and physically removing the activated carbon (with at least a portion of the aromatic content of the coke derived from the kerosene or gas oil absorbed thereon) from the slurry before passage of the kerosene or gas oil to the steam cracking furnace. The separation of the activated carbon from the kerosene or gas oil is made in a physical separation zone whereby a wall having aperatures therein, similar to a filter or screen, is sized to permit passage of the kerosene or gas oil through the aperatures with a decreased amount of aromatics and yet prohibit the passage of the fine, particulate activated carbon having polynuclear aromatics absorbed through the aperatures thereon.
