An example method involves identifying a first location of a portable metering device at a first time based on a plurality of location coordinates received from a location information system. The example method also involves generating media monitoring information corresponding to a media signal received at the first time. Additionally, the example method involves identifying the media monitoring information as being associated with a spillover signal in response to determining that a media delivery device is not located at the first location of the portable metering device at the first time.

Initially, a first sensor located in a first location and a second sensor located in a second location receive a portable metering device signal. First location information is associated with receiving the portable metering device signal via the first sensor and second location information is associated with receiving the portable metering device signal via the second sensor. Media monitoring information is generated based on one of the first location information or the second location information.

Methods and apparatus for collecting media consumption data based on usage information of a media delivery device are disclosed. In an example method, media information is received by a portable metering device associated with a monitored individual such as a portable telephone, a personal digital assistant, and/or a handheld computer. Usage information indicative of a media delivery event associated with a media delivery device such as a television is monitored by the portable metering device. To form the media consumption data, the media information is associated with one of a first channel and a second channel based on the usage information.
