Using a trick flight control process, a pilot may fly an aircraft while having control over two axes of orientation while the aircraft may be rotating automatically about a third axis of orientation. The pilot may continue to fly the aircraft during an automated trick rather than relinquishing control completely to the aircraft's electronics.

Controllable flight during automated tricks

The present invention provides a method for self-righting a remote controlled model vehicle. The method includes determining a current pitch angle and a current angular rocking rate of the model vehicle. The method further includes accelerating or decelerating a mass on the model vehicle based on the current pitch angle and the current angular rocking rate of the model vehicle to create a rocking motion about a first axis by the model vehicle. In addition, the method may include sensing a rotation about a second axis of the model vehicle and imparting a yaw moment to realign the model vehicle to rock about the first axis. The method may also include terminating the self-righting process when the model vehicle is upright.

An access gateway node couples a control node to an external data network, where the control node and access gateway node are for use in a wireless communications network. The access gateway node comprises a data function to route packets containing traffic data between the control node and the external data network. An interface to the control node enables exchange of control messages between the data function and a control function in the control node.

Different vehicles have different dynamic operation and responses and therefore may require different Electronic Steering Stability (ESS) system 'settings'. The 'settings' may be different &#x201c;gains&#x201d;, or different &#x201c;coefficients&#x201d; used with the control system algorithms. &#x201c;Settings&#x201d; may also mean that a completely different control algorithm may be used. For example, a vehicle A may be controlled adequately with a &#x201c;P&#x201d; control algorithm, while a vehicle B may require a complete &#x201c;PID&#x201d; control algorithm to be implemented.

The approximate curvature control of the RC vehicle determined using error integration to achieve full steering. Application of a leaky integrator may be used to minimize steering memory. The leak factor may be based off gain scheduling of the steering input.
