Provided is a y-block, a multilateral junction, and a method for forming a well system. The y-block, in one aspect, includes a housing having a first end and a second opposing end, and a single first bore extending into the housing from the first end, the single first bore defining a first centerline. The y-block according to this aspect further includes second and third separate bores extending into the housing and branching off from the single first bore, the second bore defining a second centerline and the third bore defining a third centerline, wherein the second and third centerlines are angled relative to one another.

High-pressure multilateral junction with mainbore and lateral access and control

Provided is a downhole tool, a y-block, a well system, and a method for forming a well system. The downhole tool, in one aspect, includes a bottom hole assembly (BHA) having an uphole end and a downhole end, and a shroud positioned around and proximate the downhole end of the BHA, the shroud operable to slide relative to the BHA. The downhole tool, in this aspect, may further include one or more shear features coupling the shroud to the downhole end of the BHA.

Provided is a keyed running tool for use with a slotted orientation apparatus. The keyed running tool, in one aspect, includes a housing, and two or more keys extending from the housing, the two or more keys movable between a radially retracted state and a radially extended state, wherein adjacent ones of the two or more keys are laterally offset from each other and radially offset from each other by Y degrees, wherein Y is 180 degrees or less.

Provided, in one aspect, is an anchoring subassembly, a well system, and a method. The anchoring subassembly, in one aspect, includes a mandrel, and an isolation element positioned about the mandrel, the isolation element configured to move between a radially retracted state, a fully radially expanded state, and a relaxed radially expanded state. The anchoring subassembly, in one aspect, further includes a ratch latch body coupled to the isolation element, the ratch latch body configured to hold the isolation element in the fully radially expanded state, and a relief feature coupled to the ratch latch body, the relief feature configured to shear to release stored energy in the isolation element and thereby allow the isolation element to move from the fully radially expanded state to the relaxed radially expanded state.

The whipstock, in one aspect, includes a coupling section having a first radius of curvature, the coupling section configured to engage with a mill bit when running in hole. The whipstock, in accordance with this aspect, further includes a casing breakthrough section having a second radius of curvature, and a controlled exit section having a third radius of curvature, wherein the second radius of curvature is less than the third radius of curvature.

A mill bit and a well system are covered. The mill bit, in one aspect, includes a tubular having an uphole end and a downhole end. The mill bit, in accordance with this aspect, further includes a first cutting section having one or more first cutting surfaces disposed about the tubular, the first cutting section having a first material removal rate and configured to engage with wellbore casing disposed within a wellbore. The mill bit, in accordance with this disclosure, further includes a second cutting section having one or more second cutting surfaces disposed about the tubular, the second cutting section having a second material removal rate less than the first material removal rate and configured to engage with a whipstock disposed within the wellbore.

Provided is a slotted orientation apparatus for use with a keyed running tool. The slotted orientation apparatus, in one aspect includes a tubular having a wall thickness (t), and a slot extending at least partially through the tubular, the slot having an angled portion coupled to an axial portion, wherein the slot radially extends around the tubular X degrees, wherein X is 180 degrees or less.

Provided is a multilateral junction (MLT), a well system, and a method for forming a well system. The MLT, in one aspect, includes a y-block having a housing with a single first bore and second and third bores extending therein, the second and third bores defining second and third centerlines. The MLT, in this aspect, further includes a mainbore leg having a first mainbore leg end coupled to the second bore and a second opposing mainbore leg end, and a lateral bore leg having a first lateral bore leg end coupled to the third bore and a second opposing lateral bore leg end. In this aspect, the mainbore leg and the lateral bore leg are twisted with respect to the second and third bore such that a first plane taken through centerlines of the second opposing mainbore leg end and the second opposing lateral bore leg end is angled.

An apparatus includes a sleeve a sleeve having a slot defined by at least a first edge and a second edge of the sleeve. At least a portion of the first edge defines a left-handed helical portion of the slot. At least a portion of the second edge defines a right-handed helical portion of the slot. The left-handed helical portion and the right-handed helical portion are at different axial positions along the sleeve with respect to a center axis through the sleeve.

Systems and methods are directed to aligning two subsequent pieces of equipment prior to disposing the pieces of equipment downhole. A method comprises providing the first tool piece to be disposed in a wellbore, wherein the first tool piece comprises: a first thread, wherein the first thread is disposed at a first end of the first tool piece; and a second thread, wherein the second thread is disposed at the first end of the first tool piece. The method further comprises disposing an alignment ring on the first tool piece, and coupling the first end of the first tool piece to a second end of the second tool piece. The method further comprises decoupling the first tool piece from the second tool piece; rotating the alignment ring; and coupling the first tool piece to the second tool piece after rotating the alignment ring to produce the tubular assembly.

A well apparatus includes a bottom hole assembly (BHA) comprising a cutting structure at one end of the BHA, a whipstock assembly for selectively deflecting the BHA to form a deviated wellbore, a whipstock connector releasably connecting the whipstock assembly to the BHA, and a whipstock support member extending between the BHA and the whipstock assembly and spaced from the whipstock connector.

A travel joint that provides fluid communication between at least two hydraulic control lines through a cavity in the travel joint. In certain embodiments, the travel joint includes a sleeve assembly, a piston assembly, and annular cavity between the piston assembly and the sleeve assembly. The sleeve assembly includes a sleeve passage configured to hydraulically couple to a hydraulic line. The piston assembly is telescopically moveable within the sleeve assembly and includes a piston passage configured to hydraulically couple to a second hydraulic line.

Travel joint

A well system having primary and secondary wellbores wherein a completion sleeve is positioned in the primary wellbore and defines a window aligned with a primary wellbore casing exit and upper and lower couplings defined on opposing axial ends of the window. An isolation sleeve is positioned within the completion sleeve and defines a helical slot. The isolation sleeve is movable between a first position, where a engagement device engages the upper coupling and the isolation sleeve occludes the window, and a second position, where the isolation sleeve is moved axially within completion sleeve to expose the window and the engagement device engages the lower coupling. A whipstock assembly includes a latch key that selectively locates and engages an inner profile of the isolation sleeve to move the isolation sleeve to the second position. An orienting key mates with the helical slot to angularly orient the whipstock assembly.

Shiftable isolation sleeve for multilateral wellbore systems

A well system including a parent wellbore, a lateral wellbore extending from the parent wellbore, and a reentry window assembly installed within the parent wellbore and including a completion window assembly having a window and providing an upper coupling, a muleshoe, and upper and lower slots provided on opposing axial ends of the window. An isolation sleeve is positioned within the completion window assembly and includes a sleeve alignment key, a sleeve coupling, and an engagement device. A whipstock is matable with the sleeve coupling and an aligning tool is operatively coupled to the whipstock and engageable with the muleshoe to angularly orient a whipstock face to the window. The isolation sleeve is movable between closed and open positions to isolate the lateral wellbore, and the sleeve alignment key interacts with the upper and lower slots to angularly orient the isolation sleeve while moving between the first and second positions.
