Heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) including components and systems for reducing thermal stress experienced by manifolds within the HRSGs are disclosed. The HRSG may include a manifold receiving a working fluid of the HRSG, a plurality of piping links in fluid communication with the manifold, and an enclosure surrounding the manifold and the plurality of piping links. The HRSG may also include at least one thermal element positioned within the enclosure. The thermal element(s) may surround the manifold. Additionally, or alternatively, the HRSG may include a supplemental heating system in fluid communication with an interior of the enclosure. The supplemental heating system may include a heater for heating fluid (e.g., air), and an inlet conduit in fluid communication with and positioned downstream of the heater. The inlet conduit may be formed through the enclosure to provide the heated fluid to the interior of the enclosure.

Components and systems for reducing thermal stress of heat recovery steam generators in combined cycle power plant systems

The present disclosure is directed to a method and a system employing a gas introduced into the system as a startup operation for a natural circulation vertical heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) to initiate natural circulation of a fluid within the system. More specifically, the present disclosure is directed to a method and a system employing a gas introduced into an outlet header of an evaporator, into an outlet header of an evaporator and into one or more risers near the outlet header of the evaporator, or into one or more risers near the outlet header of the evaporator, to initiate natural circulation of a fluid in a desired system direction from the evaporator directly into a steam drum.

A system for preheating a heat recovery steam generator is provided. The system includes a tank and a heat exchanger. The tank contains a transferring medium. The heat exchanger is disposed in a flow path of a flue gas produced by a combustion chamber, and is fluidly connected to the tank such that the transferring medium flows through the heat exchanger and is heated by the flue gas. The transferring medium preheats one or more components of the heat recovery steam generator.

A heat recovery steam generator that includes a first steam drum for receiving a flow of water and steam from an evaporator. The first steam drum is adapted to provide the flow of water and steam to a second steam drum. The second steam drum is in fluid communication with the first steam drum and receives the flow of water and steam from the first steam drum and separates steam from the flow of water and steam to form a separated steam. There is a steam flow outlet positioned in the second steam drum, the steam flow outlet adapted to release the separated steam from the second steam drum.

A radial nozzle assembly for use in a pressure vessel to enable fluid flow through the vessel wall is provided. The radial nozzle assembly has a nozzle and a cup-shaped flange extending from one end of the nozzle. The nozzle has a bore disposed therethrough along its length to permit fluid flow through the wall of the pressure vessel. The flange is defined by a generally cup or dome-shaped wall having an open end. The nozzle assembly is secured to the wall of the vessel such that the nozzle is disposed in a radial orientation to the flange and possibly in a horizontal orientation.

An evaporator for steam generation is presented. The evaporator includes a plurality of primary evaporator stages and a secondary evaporator stage. Each primary stage includes one or more primary arrays of heat transfer tubes, an outlet manifold coupled to the arrays, and a downcomer coupled to the manifold. Each of the primary arrays has an inlet for receiving a fluid and is arranged transverse to a flow of gas through the evaporator. The gas heats the fluid flowing through the arrays to form a two phase flow. The outlet manifold receives the two phase flow from the arrays and the downcomer distributes the flow as a component of a primary stage flow. One or more of the plurality of primary evaporator stages selectively form the primary stage flow from respective components of the two phase flow, and provide the primary stage flow to inlets of the secondary evaporator stage.

A splitter plate arrangement is provided for controlling the flow of flue gas in a vertical stack. The splitter plate arrangement is operable to control the flow of flue gas in a vertical stack having an annular entry communicated with two inlets A, B which each communicate a respective one of the flue gas producers with the vertical stack . The second splitter plate extends radially inwardly from the inner surface of the vertical stack at generally the midpoint MDOB of the other bisected half of the annular entry of the vertical stack on the other respective side of the inlet axis A.

An air compartment of a corner windbox of a tangential firing system of a fossil fuel-fired furnace for injecting secondary air into the furnace. The air compartment includes a channel portion with an entrance end communicating with an air delivery duct and an exit end communicating via an exit assembly with the furnace opening. The exit assembly includes at least one vane for guiding an air stream and a mounting frame for supporting the vane relative to the channel portion for guiding thereby of an air stream passing from the channel portion through the furnace opening into the furnace. The vane includes a surface portion which intersects the horizontal plane at an acute angle and a pair of opposed transverse edges. The vane and the mounting frame are disposed within the channel portion such that the leading edge of the vane is upstream of the furnace opening.

Sulfur oxides (SO.sub.x) are scrubbed from combustion effluents with greater system reliability when an improved mist eliminator of the invention is employed. The mist eliminator has at least one section, preferably two sections, with two passes followed by an extended trailing edge. This design is shown in tests to be as effective as four pass designs, while being easier to clean. Encrustation and plugging are greatly reduced.

A heat recovery steam generator has a housing defining a horizontally oriented exhaust gas stream path from a gas turbine. The housing has a diffuser portion and a full cross-section portion containing heat recovery assemblies. The diffuser portion expands the exhaust gas stream from the duct at the gas turbine exhaust to the full cross-section portion. Positioned in the diffuser is a diffuser heat recovery assembly for heat recovery and control of the flow distribution of the exhaust gas flow stream.

Method and apparatus for improving gas flow in heat recovery steam

A gas turbine combined cycle system with a heat recovery steam generator which may include enclosed adjacent cavities may accumulate combustible gas mixtures during shut-downs. Gas detectors located in the heat transfer section of the heat recovery steam generator, in related duct work and in the adjacent cavities detect the presence of these gas mixtures and produce appropriate signals. A signal from the detectors in the cavities initiate the aspiration of the mixture from the cavity. Signals from the detectors in the heat transfer section and ducts as well as from the cavities control the gas turbine so that upon start-up, no fuel is introduced to the gas turbine so that the gas turbine forces purge air through the heat recovery steam generator. When all of the signals indicate that no combustible gas mixtures are present, the gas turbine is ignited.
