Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to hybrid optical fiber ferrules and methods of fabricating the same. In one embodiment, an optical fiber ferrule includes a glass faceplate, a plastic body molded about the glass faceplate, and at least one fiber through-hole extending through the plastic body. In another embodiment, a method of fabricating an optical fiber ferrule includes disposing a glass faceplate within a die comprising at least one fiber die pin, an injecting the die with plastic to form a plastic body such that the glass faceplate is embedded within the plastic body, wherein the at least one fiber die pin defines at least one fiber through-hole. Other materials with suitable coefficients of thermal expansion may be used for the faceplates of the fiber optic ferrules according to the concepts disclosed.

Multi-fiber, fiber optic cables and cable assemblies providing constrained optical fibers within an optical fiber sub-unit are disclosed. The optical fiber sub-unit(s) comprises optical fibers disposed adjacent a sub-unit strength member(s) within a sub-unit jacket. Movement of optical fibers within a sub-unit jacket can be constrained. In this manner, the optical fibers in an optical fiber sub-unit can be held together within the optical fiber sub-unit as a unit.

A fiber optic connector for a plurality of optical fibers includes: a housing portion, a ferrule assembly at least partially disposed in the housing portion, a spring push positioned behind the ferrule, and a spring positioned between the spring push and ferrule. The ferrule assembly includes a ferrule defining an end face of the fiber optic connector and having a plurality of bores arranged in at least two linear rows. The ferrule assembly also includes a ferrule boot coupled to the ferrule, with the ferrule boot including a fiber alignment portion and a cover portion. The fiber alignment portion defines a first groove for a first row of the optical fibers and a second groove for a second row of the optical fibers.

A fiber optic assembly includes a connector and a cover received over an end face of the connector. The connector includes a ferrule through which an optical fiber extends to the end face of the connector. An end of the optical fiber is polished proximate to the end face. The cover the cover includes a rigid end cap and a form-fitting material within the end cap overlaying the polished end of the optical fiber. The cover is configured to limit access of particulates to the end face of the connector and draw loose particulates of dust and debris from the end face of the connector upon removal from the connector.

Multi-fiber, fiber optic cable assemblies and related fiber optic components, cables, and methods providing constrained optical fibers within an optical fiber sub-unit are disclosed. The optical fiber sub-unit(s) comprises optical fibers disposed adjacent a sub-unit strength member(s) within a sub-unit jacket. Movement of optical fibers within a sub-unit jacket can be constrained. In this manner, the optical fibers in an optical fiber sub-unit can be held together within the optical fiber sub-unit as a unit. As a non-limiting example, the optical fiber sub-unit(s) may be exposed and constrained in a furcation assembly as opposed to the optical fibers, thereby reducing complexity in fiber optic cable assembly preparations. Constraining the optical fibers may also allow optical skew, reduction of entanglement between the optical fibers and the cable strength members to reduce or avoid optical attenuation, and/or allow the optical fibers to act as anti-buckling components within the fiber optic cable.

A fiber optic assembly includes a connector and a cover bonded to an end face of the connector. The connector includes a ferrule, where an optical fiber extends through the ferrule and to the end face of the connector. An end of the optical fiber is polished proximate to the end face. The cover is bonded directly to the end face of the connector, and overlays the polished end of the optical fiber such that the cover protects the optical fiber, limits access of dust to the end face of the connector, and draws loose particulates from the end face upon removal of the cover.

Fiber optic connection assemblies for rearranging sets of fiber optic signals arranged in one parallel optical configuration into one or more different parallel optical configurations are disclosed. In one arrangement, two (2) data transmission pairs are connected between one multi-fiber connector from each of two connector sets in a first parallel optical configuration using a common set of fiber positions for each multi-fiber connector. Another two (2) data transmission pairs are connected to the common set of fiber positions of a multi-fiber connector from the first connector set, but are connected to other fiber positions of the multi-fiber connectors of the second connector set, using fiber positions that are not used by the other two (2) data transmission pairs. In this manner, cabling complexity can be reduced with increased signal density within fiber optic cables having a multi-fiber configuration.

A fiber optic harness assembly includes first through sixth groups of optical fibers and first and second connector sets. The groups of optical fibers are arranged in data transmission pairs such that one group of each pair is configured to transmit data and the other group is configured to receive data. The pairs of the groups are organized such that a first pair includes the first and second groups, a second pair includes the third and fourth groups, and a third pair includes the fifth and sixth groups. The optical fibers of the groups are sized and routed to facilitate low-skew and efficient parallel optics connections for high-speed data transmission.

The first end has a first end width and the second end has a first engagement width and may change to a second engagement width while engaging a guide pin bore in a ferrule. Methods of preparing strength member pulling members in fiber optic cable furcations and related components, assemblies, and fiber optic cables are disclosed. To allow fiber optic cables to be pulled without damaging optical fiber(s) disposed therein, a strength member pulling loop is formed from a strength member disposed inside the fiber optic cable. A pulling cord can be disposed in the strength member pulling loop to pull the fiber optic cable. The pulling load applied to the pulling cord is translated to the strength member pulling loop, which is translated to the strength member disposed inside the fiber optic cable. In this manner, when the fiber optic cable is pulled, the pulling load is translated to the strength member disposed inside the fiber optic cable to prevent or avoid damaging the optical fiber(s) disposed inside the fiber optic cable.

Methods of preparing strength member pulling members in fiber optic cable furcations and related components, assemblies, and fiber optic cables

Fiber optic cable mounting adapters and related fiber optic cable assemblies and methods for attaching an external mounting device to the fiber optic cable are disclosed. The fiber optic mounting adapters can be configured to be secured to a portion of a fiber optic cable. The fiber optic mounting adapters can also be configured to be secured to external mounting devices compatible to be secured to fiber optic equipment, to secure the fiber optic mounting adapter, and in turn the fiber optic cable, to the fiber optic equipment. Securing a portion of a fiber optic cable can reduce or prevent bending strain from being propagated along the fiber optic cable. Undesired bending strain of a fiber optic cable can cause undesired optical attenuation. Bending strain can also risk damaging optical fibers, such as furcated legs, exposed from the end portion of the fiber optic cable.
