A method and a device for monitoring the functions of a sensor, in particular of a sensor for detecting a measurable value in a motor vehicle. If specified operating states exist, a measurable value is detected and compared to a reference value. Faults are detected when a measured value, held by the sensor, deviates by more than a tolerance value from a reference value. The invention relates to an electronic circuit arrangement for triggering excitation windings of electromagnetic components, provided with supplementary circuit elements, in particular free-running circuit elements, preferably solenoid valves (MV.sub.1 to MV.sub.n), whereby in order to provide a flexible open-loop control, the components are each connected in series to a controllable contact element (3). To reduce the degree of complexity of the circuit, the manufacturing price and the space requirement, it is proposed that the connecting terminals (1, 4) of this series connection lead directly, and the connections (2) between the components (MV.sub.1 to MV.sub.n) and the contact elements (3) lead via diodes (D.sub.1 to D.sub.n), respectively, to a collecting point (A, B, C), to which collecting points (A, B, C) is linked one and the same supplementary circuit-element configuration (T.sub.F,C.sub.L,10,11) shared by all components. Accordingly, the component parts of the supplementary circuit elements are subject to multiple use; they are available to all of the electromagnetic components.

A circuit arrangement for determining a high-resolution angular position of a rotating member includes a sensor (7) for delivering relatively low resolution measuring signals which are applied to a circuit arrangement (11) for converting the measuring signals into a high-resolution indication of the angle of rotation. The circuit arrangement includes an evaluation circuit with a memory for storing high-resolution angle values, a controllable counter for controlling the memory and operating at two frequencies (f1 and f2), a comparator for comparing the output signals of the sensor and of the memory to change, via a regulating circuit, the counting rate of the counter from f1 to f2 in dependency on the result of the comparison. The count (i) of the counter represents a measure of the high-resolution angle of rotation.

The invention is directed to a method and arrangement for controlling a self-igniting internal combustion engine. The arrangement includes at least one measured-value sensor, electronic control unit for forming a quantity signal for metering fuel, and a control unit for driving individual actuators for each cylinder. The actuators determine the quantity of fuel injected by the pump elements into the cylinders. Under specific conditions, a corrective unit is activated which determines corrective values specific to the cylinders for making the cylinders equal. The open-loop control unit applies the metering signal to the actuators in dependence upon the quantity signal and the corrective values.

The invention is directed to a control apparatus cooling system which includes a control apparatus arrangement for an internal combustion engine. The control apparatus arrangement is set into operation by an ignition contact signal. The control apparatus arrangement is cooled with the aid of a coolant loop which has a pump motor. A self-holding circuit is provided in the control apparatus arrangement and supplies the pump motor and a voltage stabilization with voltage to drive a microcomputer as soon as the ignition contact signal appears. The cooling of the control apparatus arrangement is not terminated immediately when the ignition contact signal ceases; instead, the pump motor continues to run until it is assured that components having conventional temperature resistance cannot become damaged in the control apparatus arrangement by overheating because of stored heat. The microcomputer determines when the switch-off condition is satisfied. This cooling system affords the advantage that components of conventional temperature resistance can be utilized in the control apparatus arrangement. Furthermore, the advantage is afforded that even after the ignition contact signal ceases, the microcomputer can still conduct self-diagnostic procedures which in conventional systems can only be carried out when the engine is started which then leads to a delay when starting the engine.
