Method for queueing packets, each packet of the packets including timing information representing a remaining time until a deadline associated with delivery at its destination; the system including N queues, each queue thereof being configured for buffering at least one packet, the N queues having a cyclic order; the method including keeping track of a pointer, initially pointing to a queue of the N queues; afterwards, repeatedly incrementing the pointer over the N queues, according to the cyclic order, after each passing of a scheduling interval S; enqueueing each packet of the packets in a queue of the N queues, that queue differing from the queue to which the pointer is pointing, based on the packet's timing information and taking into account the cyclic order; and dequeueing enqueued packets from the N queues, while prioritizing dequeueing from the queue to which the pointer is pointing.

Methods, queueing system, network element and network system for queueing and processing of packets

A method of providing an Internet protocol television service to a subscriber, and a network element to execute this method. At an acquisition tier, IPTV packets are generated from video stream data of one or more video channels and transmitted to a FCC server cluster at a client-facing tier. IPTV packets associated with one of the one or more video channels selected by the subscriber are delivered from the deliver server cluster to a receiver of the subscriber at a client tier wherein the IPTV packets associated with the one of the one or more video channels are reassembled at said receiver into a coherent video stream. Said generated IPTV packets are routed from a network () of a TV broadcaster to networks of one or more TV operators or from a network of a TV operator to networks of one or more TV operators by means of IPTV service routers installed at an intertwine tier arranged between the acquisition tier and the client-facing tier.

Method of providing an IPTV service

The invention concerns a method of providing resource admission control to packet flows () associated with sessions in a communication network (), and an access controller () to execute this method. The communication network () handles packets according to priority levels assigned to the packets. The priority levels comprise at least a first and a second priority level wherein the first priority level is higher than the second priority level. First, a packet flow () associated with the new session is identified when packets of the packet flow () enter the communication network (). Preferably, the new session is a real-time session. The second priority level is assigned to the identified packet flow and the packet flow () is handled according to the second priority level within the communication network (). A congestion level is measured in the communication network (). If the measured congestion level stays below a predefined threshold, the priority level of the packet flow () associated with the new session is upgraded from the second priority to the first priority within the communication network (). Once upgraded, the packet flow () is handled according to the first priority level within the communication network () until the packet flow () is terminated.
