A method for extending the operating functionality of a field device from one operating device to another includes establishing a wireless communication connection between the operating device and the field device via a first communication interface, wherein the operating device executes at least one operating program having a plurality of display elements and operating functions via which the field device is serviced. The method includes initiating a search via a communication interface for an operating device. Where at least one other operating device is found, a wireless communication connection between the operating devices via one of the communication interfaces is established. The method also includes transmitting part of the display elements and/or operating functions to the other operating program of the other operating device and servicing the field device by means of the other operating device via the display elements and operating functions transmitted to the other operating program.

Method for extending the operating functionality of a field device in the field of automation technology from one operating device to at least one other operating device

The disclosure includes a method of automation technology for wireless transmission of at least a first information between an initiator and a plurality of receivers in a receiving mode, comprising: transmitting the first information by the initiator in a first communication pulse; receiving the first information by at least one receiver; transmitting an additional communication pulse containing the same first information as the first communication pulse, by at least one receiver that received the first communication pulse, and changing the at least one receiver into an acknowledgment mode; repeating the previous step, until all receivers are changed into the acknowledgment mode; activating at least one receiver, which is located in the acknowledgment mode; performing the at least one additional command contained in the received first information by the activated receiver; and changing the activated receiver into the receiving mode. A level measurement device for measuring the level of material inside of a vessel which includes a conductive element, a signal generating unit, and a receiving unit. The conductive element does not come into direct contact with the material being measured. The signal generating unit generates measurement signals which are transmitted along the conductive element. Each of the measurement signals produces an electromagnetic field which travels along the conductive element and is reflected when it reaches the surface of material in the vessel. The reflected electromagnetic field produces an echo signal which travels along said conductive element to the receiving unit. The receiving unit receives the echo signal and determines the level of material in the vessel. The conductive element can be located outside of the vessel. The level measurement device can also include a protective shield which substantially surrounds the sides of the conductive element to prevent interfering radiation from interfering with the signals transmitted and reflected along the conductive element.

Liquid level meter

The capacitive level limit switch used for monitoring the level of a material in a container has a capacitive probe fitted at the height of the level to be monitored so that it is covered by the material when the level has attained this height. The capacitance of the probe is compared to a threshold value determining the switching point, for establishing whether the probe is covered by material or not. For setting the switching point, the capacitance of the probe measured in one condition of the probe is stored as a first reference value and a provisional second reference value is calculated from the first reference value by addition or subtraction of a predetermined amount and is also stored. From the stored reference values the threshold value is calculated according to a prescribed function so that it lies between the two reference values. If it is determined in operation that the measured capacitance value deviates by a certain amount from the second reference value, this measured capacitance value is stored as a new second reference value, and from the reference values now stored a new threshold value is calculated according to the prescribed function.
