A driving apparatus () for an optical scanning device () has a threaded spindle () onto which a spindle nut () is threaded. The driving apparatus () further includes a coupler () for coupling the spindle nut () to the scanning device (). The coupler () effects a Cardan coupling in the manner of a Cardan joint. In a technically simple way particularly good synchronisation can be guaranteed during scanning.

The invention relates to a cassette, in particular an X-ray cassette, for receiving a storage fluorescent screen. The cassette has on one of its narrow sides an opening through which the storage fluorescent screen is to be inserted into or removed from the cassette. The opening is closable by a flap which is displaceable between a closed position in which it closes the opening and a release position in which it releases the opening for insertion or removal of the storage fluorescent screen. For this purpose the flap is mounted swivellably to the transition between the narrow side of the cassette provided with the opening and the base of the cassette or the cassette lid.

An arrangement for detecting an image on a phosphorescent foil has two light conductors which lead to a common photomultiplier. The light conductors are spaced from one another by a small gap which allows a laser beam to pass between the conductors and excite the foil. The light conductors have flat end faces for the admission of light into the conductors, and the end faces are directed towards the foil as well as the gap. The end faces make an angle of 10 to 30 degrees with the foil. The light conductors are designed so that the greater part of impinging radiation is admitted into and travels the length of a conductor only when the path of the radiation and a normal to the respective end face define an angle which is equal to or less than the acceptance angle of the conductor. Each end face has an edge remote from the gap, and a location at which the laser beam impinges the foil defines a plane with a location on either edge. The impingement location of the laser beam defines a line with each edge location, and each line makes an angle equal to or less than the acceptance angle with a normal to the respective end face. A reflector can be mounted adjacent either edge to reflect light emitted from the foil towards the end faces.

The leaders of successive topmost sheets of a stack of sheets are lifted by a set of aligned suction cups which move each leader into a horizontal plane including the nip of two advancing rolls. The suction cups insert the leading edge of each leader into the nip and continue to adhere to the leader while the latter is advanced by the rolls so that the leader pulls the suction cups against the opposition of a weak spring tending to move the suction cups and their mobile support to a starting position. The drive for the advancing rolls is thereupon arrested for an interval of time which suffices to ensure the collapse of suction in the cups by arresting the suction pump and by simultaneously opening a valve which connects the interior of each cup with the atmosphere.

Method and apparatus for singularizing stacked X-ray films or the like

Apparatus for transferring sheets from a relatively wide or relatively narrow stack of sheets into a transporting device has a pair of suction cups which engage the leader of the topmost sheet in the stack and turn it through 90.degree. so that the leader becomes separated from the leader of the sheet therebelow. The suction cups are thereupon raised to the level of the nips of driven advancing rolls in the transporting device to move the leader into a plane which includes the nips and is parallel to the planes of sheets in the stack, and such leader is introduced into the nips so that the advancing rolls engage the leader while the latter becomes detached from the suction cups. The suction cups engage only a portion of the leader of a relatively wide sheet, and the remainder of the leader is flexed with the engaged portion to ensure that it enters a path which is defined by additional advancing rolls of the transporting device simultaneously with entry of the engaged portion of the leader into the nips of the driven advancing rolls. The apparatus can be used with advantage for removal of successive topmost X-ray films from a stack of films regardless of the width and/or height of the stack. The suction cups descend from the level of the nips to the level of the topmost sheet in the stack as soon as the transfer of the preceding sheet is completed and along a path such that each of a series of successive properly stacked sheets is engaged at the same distance from its leading edge.

Apparatus for manipulating stacked X-ray sheets or the like

Latent images on sheet-like carriers are developd by attracting that side of a carrier which faces away from the image to the convex external surface of a first support which constitutes a portion of or an entire hollow drum and is rotatable in at least one direction. A concavo-convex electrode is outwardly adjacent to and spaced apart from the path of movement of the carrier on the first support and can be mounted directly on the first support or on a discrete second support which is coaxial with and can be rotated with as well as relative to the first support. The electrode and the carrier define an arcuate developing chamber of constant width which receives a supply of developing liquid when the one and/or the other support is rotated to place the carrier into register with the electrode or to simultaneously rotate the carrier and the electrode to a position in which the developing liquid can flow downwardly and into the developing chamber. The development of the image on the carrier is terminated by rotating the one and/or the other support in the same direction in which the support or supports are rotated to contact the carrier by the developing agent. This insures that the developing agent contacts each and every portion of the image for the same interval of time.

The intensity of development of latent images on dielectric receptor sheets in a liquid bath which contains a dispersion of toner particles and fills a vessel between two electrodes one of which supports a sheet in such a way that the latent image faces the other sheet is regulated by measuring the current which flows between the electrodes in response to insertion of a fresh sheet between the electrodes, comparing the measured result with a preselected reference value, and evacuating the bath from the vessel to thereby terminate the development when the ratio of measured result to the reference value is one-to-one or another preselected ratio.
