The invention relates to a coaxial smoking article, particularly a coaxial cigarette, comprising a coaxial rod of smokable material, which rod has an inner segment (,) of smokable material surrounded by a covering (,), around which covering is an outer segment (,) of combustible or thermally destructible/decomposable material, which outer segment is also surrounded by a covering (,). The combustible or thermally destructible/decomposable material of the outer segment contains no or only a very small proportion of spot-forming substances. Further, the coverings of the inner and outer segments are such that spot-forming substances in the inner segment are essentially unable to reach the outside of the covering. Hence, a cigarette having reduced potential for the production of spotting is so formed.

The invention relates to a coaxial cigarette including a coaxial tobacco rod comprising a rod core, a rod core wrapping, a rod jacket and a rod jacket wrapping and a multi-part ventilated filter wherein the filter comprises a filter wrapping as well as at least two longitudinal segments of which at least one is a coaxial filter segment having a core element, a core element wrapping and a jacket element and wherein the ratio of the resistance to draw of the rod core to the resistance to draw of the rod jacket is greater than unity and preferably in the range of 2 to 4.

The invention refers to a ventilated filter cigarette comprising a tobacco rod, a wrapper for the tobacco rod and a filter ventilated through ventilation openings, including a coaxial filter element, comprising a filter core, a wrapper for the filter core, a filter jacket and a wrapper for the filter jacket, in which the material specifications of the tobacco rod and the filter and the dimensions of their individual components are designed to allow the smoke to flow mainly through the filter core (upon open ventilation zone) and when covering the ventilation openings, the smoke of the cigarette flows to a major degree through the filter jacket of the coaxial filter element.

The invention relates to a segmented filter cigarette comprising a tobacco rod including at least two segments of differing tobacco fillings, a wrapping for said tobacco rod, and a filter, said at least two segments of said tobacco rod having a coaxial structure, each comprising an inner core of tobacco material, a wrapping for said inner core, a jacket of a different tobacco material and a wrapping for said jacket; the tobaccos of said inner cores of said segments have the same or a very similar condensate potential; the tobaccos of said jackets of said segments have the same or a very similar condensate potential which differs, however, from the condensate potential of said inner cores; by defining the resistances to draw of said inner cores and of said jackets of said segments and by adapting said filter it is achieved that the smoke is drawn substantially from the region having a high condensate potential of the first-burning segment during smoking of the segmented filter cigarette, and the smoke is drawn substantially from the region of said segment having the lower condensate potential during smoking of the filter-end segment to achieve the same perception of taste puff-for-puff. By specially designing the coaxial filter an increasing proportion of smoke is introduced into the filter part having high filtering effectiveness during smoking of said first segment.

Segmented filter cigarette

The invention relates to a coaxial tobacco cartridge with an inner core of a first tobacco blend, a sheath for the inner core, an outer jacket of a second tobacco blend, a sheath of high air permeability and an associated filter element. The coaxial tobacco cartridge is not smokable independently, but can be used by persons to make their own coaxial cigarettes, by inserting it in an appropriate cigarette-paper tube or wrapping it in a cigarette-paper strip.

Tobacco cartridge

The coaxial filter cigarette according to the invention contains of a coaxial rod portion and a coaxial filter element. The rod portion contains an inner core of a material glowing or smouldering substantially residue-free, in particular tobacco material, which is surrounded by a wrapper which in turn is surrounded by an outer jacket of a tobacco and/or non-tobacco material. A wrapper of an air-permeable material surrounds the outer jacket. The coaxial filter element has a filter core with an air-impermeable wrapper. A filter jacket having a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the outer jacket coaxially surrounds the filter core and its wrapper. An air-impermeable wrapper serving also to connect the rod portion and filter element surrounds the filter jacket. A ventilation zone is worked into the air-impermeable wrapper for the filter jacket. In the transition region between the rod portion and the filter element a smoke mixing zone is formed for defined variation of the smoke mixture leaving the rod portion before it flows into the filter element.

Coaxial filter cigarette

The invention relates to a coaxial cigarette comprising a coaxial tobacco rod of a core and a rod periphery which contain different mixtures, the sheaths of the rod core and the rod periphery consisting of combustible material and a filter mouthpiece being provided at one end of the coaxial tobacco rod; according to the invention, the ratio of the draw resistance of the core per unit length to the packing density thereof lies in the range from about 0.13 to about 0.27 mm WC cm.sup.2 /mg whilst the ratio of the draw resistance per unit length of the rod periphery to the packing density thereof lies in the range of about 0.07 to about 0.11 mm WC cm.sup.2 /mg; the filter mouthpiece is a conventional preferably ventilated filter.

Coaxial cigarette

In a coaxial cigarette including a rod portion having an inner core of a material smoldering substantially without residue, a sheath for the inner core, an outer jacket coaxially surrounding the inner core and its sheath, a sheath for the outer jacket and a filter portion, even whilst dispensing with special papers provided with special additives the secondary smoke is effected solely by the characteristics of a special coaxial rod type, the packing density of the inner core being greater than the packing density of the outer jacket, the draw resistance per unit length with respect to the packing density being greater in the inner core than in the outer jacket, the air permeability of the sheath of the inner core being less than the air permeability of the sheath of the outer jacket and the filter portion having a filter ventilation degree of at least 30% and a retention degree of at least 40%.

A coaxial filter cigarette with a rod portion having an inner core of material glowing substantially free of residue, in particular tobacco material, a sheath or wrapper for the inner core, an outer shell of tobacco and/or non-tobacco material coaxially surrounding the inner core or its sheath, respectively, a sheath or wrapper for the outer shell, and with a filter portion having a filter core, an air-impermeable sheath or wrapper for the filter core, a filter shell and a sheath or wrapper for the filter shell comprises a zone of the main heat source which is located in the inner core of the rod portion and a zone in which the major part of the aerosol reaching the mouth of the smoker is produced and which is located in the outer shell of the rod portion; the filter portion greatly reduces the combustion gases originating from the inner core of the rod portion and substantially reduces the smoke particles originating from the inner core, whereas the aerosol produced in the outer shell of the rod portion is influenced only slightly or not at all.

A filter cigatette comprises a tobacco rod having a tobacco mixture with a low packing or filling density, a first filter element racing the tobacco rod, having a retention capacity of 40 to 80% and consisting of a fibrous material having a low single denier and a high total denier, a second filter element facing the mouth of the smoker and having a retention capacity of 15% at the maximum, and a hollow chamber formed between the two filter elements and having a length of 3 to 7 mm at an overall length of the filter between 18 and 30 mm. The two filter elements and the hollow chamber are surrounded by a paper wrapper and an air-permeable tipping paper with a ventilation zone in the region of the hollow chamber; said ventilation zone ensures a ventilation degree of 50 to 85% and is created on the finished cigarette by laser beams or by mechanically produced perforations through both papers. In this way a more intensive taste sensation can be achieved together with a low nicotine to condensate ratio.

Filter cigarette

A coaxial cigarette comprising an inner core of a material glowing away substantially without residue, in particular tobacco material, with a sheath for the inner core, an outer jacket coaxially surrounding the inner core and its sheath and comprising a tobacco and/or non-tobacco material, and a sheath for the outer jacket, has a diameter of the inner core which lies in the range from 45% to 80% of the outer diameter of the coaxial cigarette; the inner core has a packing density in the range from 300 to 400 mg/cm.sup.3 ; the outer jacket has a packing density in the rnage from 170 to 250 mg/cm.sup.3. The sheath of the inner core has an air permeability of less than 3 ISO units. The outer sheath has a front segment to be lit and a rear mouth-side segment; the front ignition-side segment of the outer sheath contains conventional glow salts and has an air permeability of 15 to 40 ISO units and the rear mouth-side segment of the outer sheath contains no glow salts and has an air permeability of less than 3 ISO units.

A coaxial cigarette comprising an inner core of a material, which glows substantially residue-free, in particular tobacco material, a wrapper for the inner core, an outer jacket which consists of a tobacco and/or non-tobacco material and coaxially surrounds the inner core and its wrapper, and a wrapper for the outer jacket, has a ventilated coaxial filter with a filter core, the internal diameter of which corresponds substantially to the diameter of the inner core, and with a filter jacket; the filter core has an air-impermeable wrapper; the filter jacket has an air-permeable wrapper; the wrapper of the inner core and the wrapper of the outer jacket are provided with glow agents; and the draw resistance of the inner core is lower than the draw resistance of the outer jacket.

A tip for a smokable article comprises a tubularly arranged covering material with an air-pervious ventilation zone, and also a tubular core which is within the covering material and which contains no filter material. The air-impervious tube wall of this core has a tubular outlet region directed towards the smoker and also a conically tapering inlet region provided with a small inlet aperture and directed towards the tobacco. Between the core and the covering material, through-flow ducts are formed by appropriate shaping of the surface of the core and these in conjunction with the remaining shape of the core define the draw resistance of this tip, and at the same time dilute the smoke through the air aspirated through the ventilation zone. This core can be manufactured from an extruded tubular blank of synthetic plastic material, in which the ducts are formed sectionwise by means of eccentrics.

Ventilating tip for a smokable article

The invention relates to a cigarette paper having the conventional burning additives and fillers containing from 20 to 50% by weight of bast fibres of fine fibrillation, with which a degree of grinding of at least 85 SR is produced. The cigarette paper produced according to this formulation has a pore structure which greatly promotes diffusion, in particular diffusion of carbon monoxide.
