A corona discharge electrode system is provided, the electrode system providing a power density of up to 200 watts per square inch by use of a liquid cooled, liquid-quartz buffered electrode. The corona discharge electrode system is particularly suitable for deglossing radiant energy curable coatings.

Corona discharge electrode system

This invention pertains to a method and apparatus for producing a cured resinous coating which exhibits a reduced gloss level. In a preferred embodiment, the cured resinous coating which exhibits a reduced gloss level is a wear resistant coating and is superimposed on a resilient floor covering material.

Method for reducing surface gloss

A corona discharge device is provided, the device providing for the formation of a corona discharge characteristic of a selected gas or gas mixture to be ionized by use of a housing which is separated into an upper and lower plenum chamber by a perforated plate. The lower plenum chamber contains at least one corona discharge electrode and has inwardly tapered wall means for directing the gas or gas mixture into the active corona region. The device is particularly suitable for deglossing wear resistant coatings on floor covering materials.

Corona discharge device

A microwave oven is provided having a field stirring and shifting device for use at high power levels. A circular plate having a set of parallel strips affixed to its surface is mounted in a recessed position in one wall of the heating chamber of a microwave oven. The plate is rotated to periodically affect the microwave heating field distribution in the chamber and to provide more uniform heating of objects in the chamber.

Microwave oven apparatus

A microwave energy trap for use in conjunction with the exit and entrance ports of a conveyorized microwave oven. The energy trap operates to prevent the escape of microwave energy through the ports into the surrounding environment. The energy trap comprises a tunnel having a current suppressing coating, resonant slots communicating through the wall of the tunnel, and waveguide chambers located over the slots for absorbing and dissipating microwave energy.

Microwave energy trap

A microwave applicator for uniform or profiled heating of materials with microwave energy. A hollow rectangular waveguide is provided with an array of resonant slots communicating through the wall of the waveguide. The slots are spaced out from the center line of the wall by varying amounts in order to selectively couple energy out of the waveguide. The slots are provided in pairs, individual slots and slot pairs being longitudinally separated by multiples of three-quarters waveguide wavelength distance to improve the efficiency of energy coupling out of the waveguide.

Microwave applicator device

An optoelectronic scanning device comprising two sets of photoresponsive elements adjusted to operate at different detection levels and aligned to scan materials marked with luminous paint and illuminated with ultraviolet light. The photo-elements are specially aligned to be optically responsive over an array of contiguous in-line domains and are coupled to trigger circuits to provide snap-action operation. The photo-elements and associated electrical components are heated and maintained at a constant temperature to ensure stable operation of the device.

Optoelectronic scanning device

A vacuum seal designed for the continuous movement therethrough of fibrous materials, such as carpet yarn, into a gaseous-plasma vacuum system while preserving a vacuum of about 1 Torr is described. The seal comprises a lower metal block with an elongated groove formed in the flat upper surface thereof and an upper metal block having an open bottom air chamber formed in its lower flat surface. In its assembled form, a flexible membrane is positioned between the formed, flat surfaces of the blocks. A seal is formed by pressurizing the air chamber in the upper block, thereby forcing the flexible membrane against the groove in the lower block and the upper side of the material passing therethrough, thus forcing the material to conform to the shape of the groove. Continuous variation in the degree of vacuum seal may be achieved by varying the pressure in the air chamber in the upper block.
