A threaded thermoplastic closure suitable for fitment to a threaded container neck is disclosed. The closure is provided with one or more vent grooves cut through the primary threads in the inner wall of the closure skirt. The ends of each thread segment are rounded and a smaller reinforcing secondary thread within the groove extends across the groove connecting the thread segments. The lower edge portion of the secondary thread is aligned with the lower edge portion of the adjacent segments of the primary thread to maximize the venting space over the secondary thread.

Vented beverage closure

A closure for fitment to the threaded neck of a container is disclosed. The closure is especially adapted for use in packaging products such as carbonated beverages. The closure has a circular top wall and an annular skirt downwardly depending therefrom. The skirt carries about its inside surface a closure thread for cooperation with the neck thread of the container. A circular, flexible, resilient liner is positioned against but rotatable with respect to the inside surface of the top wall and has a diameter greater than the outside diameter of the container lip which defines the container mouth. There is provided an annular projection which is located adjacent the inside intersection of the top wall and the skirt. This projection has a configuration whereby it presses the liner on the outside edge of the container lip to form a gas-tight seal when the closure is fitted onto the container.

Threaded closure with liner

A thermoplastic cap having improved anti-backoff characteristics features a primary helical thread and a coaxial secondary thread. The cap is of a thermoplastic material having an elastic modulus in flexure within the range of from about 0.2.times.10.sup.5 to about 10.sup.6 pounds per square inch so that the secondary helical thread will flex in response to tightening torque.

Thermoplastic screw-threaded closure cap

A tamper-proof package having a container and closure is disclosed. The container has a threaded neck and an outwardly projecting flange beneath the container threads. The cap has a top wall and a downwardly depending sidewall with the sidewall having inwardly projecting, helical threads for cooperation with the container threads. Provided as part of the cap is an annular cap flange which is disposed beneath the cap sidewall and adapted for connection to the container flange. Holding the annular cap flange to the cap body is achieved by the utilization of a plurality of elongated connecting ribs. These connecting ribs extend downward from the cap sidewall to the cap flange and have a direction of slope opposite the direction of the helix angle of the cap helical thread.
