A method is provided for producing a yarn from at least two individual yarn components having different physical characteristics so that the produced yarn has a desired visual effect. The method includes continuously supplying at least one yarn component in the form of a bundle of continuous filaments and individually treating the bundle of continuous filaments in a treating stage. The treated bundle of continuous filaments is then conveyed to a collective compacting stage. At least one other yarn component is supplied from a spinning beam or a bobbin directly to the collecting compacting stage and the bundle of continuous filaments and at least one other yarn component are compacted collectively in a collective compacting device.

An apparatus for the continuous crimping of thermoplastic threads has at least one crimping nozzle with a feed channel and a nozzle orifice and at least one pair of lateral guide means, e.g. needle rows, arranged around the circumference of a plug feed roller wherein, in an apparatus in which several threads are crimped in parallel, several axially spaced guide means pairs are used on the same feed roller, and in order to prevent disturbing transverse flows so as to render the aerodynamic conditions uniform during plug formation in the vicinity of the crimping nozzle orifice and for easy handling the plug feed roller, the guide means are axially protected against one another and against the outside by protective rings which have an identical or larger external diameter than the pair of guide means.

Apparatus for the continuous crimping of thermoplastic threads

A crimping apparatus for the continuous crimping of thermoplastic threads has a crimping nozzle with a feed channel, a nozzle orifice and a guide fork comprising two guide members and a plug feed roller with two parallel, interrupted, lateral guide means passing around its circumference, wherein the crimping nozzle and plug feed roller are positioned in such a way that, in a plug formation area following the nozzle orifice of the feed channel, a stuffer box is formed by the two lateral guide means and the two guide members of the guide fork, such that the thread is moved under pressure through the feed channel by means of a pressurized feed medium, which expands upon passing out of the nozzle orifice, wherein, in order to ensure an all-sided, rapid and uniform escape of the feed medium and a minimum friction surface between plugs and the stationary members bounding the stuffer box, the guide members of the guide fork are in the form of rows of spaced partial members, whose gaps extend parallel to the direction of movement of the rows of the spaced partial plug members.

Apparatus for continuously crimping thermoplastic threads

The texturing nozzle is supplied with a heating medium such as hot air during a start-up phase for preheating of the nozzle and the associated parts of the texturing machine. After a predetermined temperature has been reached, superheated steam is delivered via change-over valve and a heater to the nozzle to carry out a texturing operation therein. The changeover valve may be operated to switch over to hot air during a running-down phase of the machine.

Method of operating a texturing nozzle

For continuously crimping thermoplastic filaments, a filament bundle is blown by a jet nozzle into a stuffing chamber of a texturing wheel to produce a crimped filament bundle in the stuffing chamber. The stuffing chamber has a receiving zone, a treatment zone and a delivery zone. The filament bundle is subjected to a texturing or crimping treatment in the receiving zone and, depending upon the fiber material to be processed, undergoes a heating or cooling treatment in the treatment zone. The heating or cooling treatment is accomplished by a blowing agent which blows a gaseous medium into the stuffing chamber. At the delivery zone, the crimped filament bundle is taken-off or lifted-out of the stuffing chamber by fiber bundle-lifting means and moved towards a suction drum receiving the filament bundle. The reception of the crimped fiber bundle at the suction drum is assisted by a suction passage in the suction drum which sucks air through a porous surface thereof so that the filament bundle remains adhering to such suction surface and is further cooled by the ambient air. The texturing wheel and the suction drum are rotatably and drivably mounted.

Apparatus for continuously crimping thermoplastic filaments

The nozzle comprises a plurality of parts which define between them a thread-treating passage and which are movable relative to each other for opening and closing the thread-treating passage to enable insertion of a thread. The thread-treating nozzle preferably comprises only two nozzle parts movable relative to each other. One nozzle part comprises a plate-like element which is elastic when subjected to the degree of deformation required to permit adjustment thereof to make face-to-face sealing contact. Mechanical elements capable of effecting uniform face-to-face sealing contact press the two nozzle parts together in the closed state. Examples of such mechanical elements are levers and springs.

Thread treating nozzles

A texturizing jet for synthetic filaments is openable and closable to facilitate lacing up. A lacing up system is operable in conjunction with the opening and closing mechanism so that the lace-up operation is semi-automatic. At least one of the parts of the jet has a flexible mounting to ensure face to face sealing contact of the parts when the jet is closed.

Lacing up of thread treating nozzles

Method for continuously crimping thermoplastic filaments

An apparatus for texturizing endless filament threads comprises a thread infeed portion, a treatment portion and a crimping portion. The crimping portion is structured as a so-called slotted nozzle provided with lamellae arranged in a star-shaped array. The lamellae are insertably held at their upper ends and at extensions provided at their lower ends in substantially half-circular-shaped insert members provided with slots. The upper insert members are firmly received in a separable connector element and the lower insert members in a separable mouth portion. Furthermore, in accordance with the invention, the insert members possess cleaning grooves which in the opened condition, i.e. the separated condition of the connector element or mouth portion, as the case may be, can be cleaned, for example by utilization of compressed or pressure air, to enable removal of dirt or other contaminants from the slot base of the insert members.

Texturizing nozzle for endless filament threads

An arrangement for texturizing continuous filament threads using a heated flowing medium comprises a housing which includes a feeding portion, a treatment portion and a crimping portion. The crimping portion includes a stuffing chamber in which the threads are longitudinally compressed to produce crimping of such threads. The crimping portion has openings through which the medium fed into the stuffing chamber with the threads can escape from the stuffing chamber. The crimping portion accommodates a plurality of lamellae which are arranged in a star-like configuration and jointly bound the stuffing chamber. A jet introduces a gas stream into the stuffing chamber in a direction which differs from the direction of advancement of the threads through the stuffing chamber, the gas stream penetrating between the lamellae into the stuffing chamber. At the commencement of the crimping operation, this gas stream causes initial retardation of the continuous thread passing through the stuffing chamber. This action of the gas stream can be continued even during the normal operation of the crimping arrangement.

Method of texturizing continuous filament threads

An apparatus for texturizing threads of endless filaments comprising a thread infeed portion, a treatment portion and a texturizing portion. The texturizing portion is provided with lamellae forming a so-called slotted nozzle. The lamellae are arranged in a substantially star-shaped or spoke-like configuration. According to the invention, these lamellae are rounded and polished on their inwardly directed lamellae faces or ends to provide optimum friction conditions between these lamellae faces and the thread to be texturized. The lamellae are removably insertably secured at their upper ends and also by means of extensions or projections provided at their lower ends in respective slots. This removable insertability of the lamellae affords the possibility of rapid exchange of such lamellae.

Apparatus for texturizing of threads of endless filaments

In a filament winding machine with a directly driven chuck and a friction roll which contacts the package during winding, the chuck is held spaced from the roll in an initial phase of winding so that first contact between a package and the roll is made by build-up of the package.

Chuck drive system

A texturizing nozzle for synthetic filaments is openable and closable to facilitate lacing up. The nozzle comprises a two-part carrier structure with the parts movable towards and away from each other to open and close the nozzle. The thread path through the nozzle is defined by means of insert elements releasably mounted on the carrier structure at least in that region of the path in which the main texturizing step is performed. A thread infeed passage and a (preferably single) fluid infeed passage bring thread and treatment fluid together at a junction location, and a guide passage (which preferably widens in the downstream direction) leads the thread and fluid from the junction location to the texturizing region.
