A spheriodal cast alloy for producing cast iron products with great mechanical strength, high-wear resistance and a high degree of ductility. The alloy comprises the following as non-iron components: between 2.5 and 2.8 wt. % C, between 2.4 and 3.4 wt. % Si, between 0.02 and 0.08 wt. % P, between 0.02 and 0.06 wt. % Mg, between 0.01 and 0.05 wt. % Cr, between 0.002 and 0.02 wt. % Al, between 0.0005 and 0.015 wt. % S, between 0.0002 and 0.002 wt. % B and conventional impurities. The alloy contains between 3.0 and 3.7 wt. % C, between 2.6 and 3.4 wt. % Si, between 0.02 and 0.05 wt. % P, between 0.025 and 0.045 wt. % Mg, between 0.01 and 0.03 wt. % Cr, between 0.003 and 0.017 wt. % Al, between 0.0005 and 0.012 wt. % S and between 0.0004 and 0.002 wt. % B. The alloy is used for example to produce chassis parts or brake discs in the automobile industry.

Spheroidal cast iron alloy parts and method for producing thereof

The invention proposes a cast iron alloy for cast iron products which are highly thermally stable, the alloy containing, as nonferrous constituents, at least the elements C, Si, Mo, Al and, as admixtures, Ni, Mg and/or S, and the C content being less than 2.9% by weight. The alloy is used, for example, to produce exhaust manifolds or turbocharger casings.

A nodular cast iron alloy for cast iron products having a high modulus of elasticity comprising the chemical constituents C, Si, Cu, Ni and/or Mo, Mn, Mg and S, wherein the alloy is composed in per cent by weight of: C&#x3c;2.96%, Si 3.8 to 4.3%, Cu 0.5 to 1.0%, Ni and/or Mo 0 to 4%, the molybdenum content being at most 1.0%, Mn 0.1 to 0.8%, Mg 0.03 to 0.07% and S at most 0.015%, the mixture proportions of C and Si being very close to the eutectic.

Nodular cast iron alloy

A method and a particle absorber for separating off entrained particles from a stream of molten metal are proposed. The particle absorber has a multiplicity of surfaces within the metal stream produced by means of mechanical separation. This separation leads to a change in the velocity of the flowing metal and to a change in the surface tension. The entrained non-metallic particles are pushed out of the metal stream into the surface regions and blocked there on the separation surfaces. The proposed method and the particle absorber show a good separation effect and, furthermore, are an inexpensive alternative to conventional systems.

Arrangement for separating entrained particles from a stream of molten

A process for the manufacture of cast iron containing vermicular graphite is described, in which nodular cast iron (GGG) is used as a starting melt. The GGG melt can be produced in a converter in a precise and reproducible way, whereby the sulphur and oxygen contents of the GGG melt are limited within narrow ranges. Additional sulphur is added to the GGG melt in an amount determined by an empirical formula depending on the magnesium and sulphur contents of the GGG melt to produce cast iron containing vermicular graphite (GGV). The GGV is produced by the present process with precision and in a reproducible manner.

Process for manufacturing cast iron containing vermicular graphite

A process for the production of cast iron containing spheroidal graphite is disclosed. In the process, the iron melt, which contains sulphur, is treated with metallic magnesium, forming unstable MgS as a by-product. By the addition of CaSi, the sulphur contained in the MgS present in the slag is converted into stable CaS. As a result, the free sulphur which is released upon decomposition of MgS when the melt is allowed to stand for a fairly long time is prevented from going back again into the melt, reacting there with the dissolved magnesium, and forming MgS once again. Through the stabilization of the sulphur in the form of CaS in the slag itself, resulphurization is effectively prevented. The slag can remain on the melt surface for a longer time than hitherto. The slag provides a heat-insulating effect, so that even longer standing times which are possibly required in certain production processes, can be utilized.
