Apparatus for spinning yarn from roving including a spinning frame with spinning units arranged thereon. The roving to be drawn is fed from a common double-roving bobbin to each of two neighboring spinning units, further referred to as spinning units pair. At least one stopping device is assigned to each of the spinning units of the spinning units pair, to stop and release again the roving feed to the two drawing frames of the respective spinning units pair. The purpose of the stopping device is to reduce the loss of roving and to avoid the danger of yarn lapping on the drawing rollers. The stopping device can be actuated by each of two yarn break sensors of the spinning units pair for the simultaneous arrest of the roving. In a second embodiment a yarn-setting carriage is provided on the spinning frame to correct a yarn break, such correction occuring only when all correction hindering conditions are absent.

Apparatus for the spinning of yarn

A process and apparatus for registering dead workstations of a spinning or twisting machine in a memory is described. For each workstation whether or not it is registered as dead or not is tested. Then, each time a yarn starting carriage arrives at it, whether or not a yarn break is present at it is also tested. In case the workstation involved is registered as dead that registration as 'dead' is then erased when no yarn break is present at that workstation.

The process and apparatus of our invention reduces the breakdown quota of stopping devices in a spinning or twisting machine which stop the roving, e.g. when a roving break occurs. A method and apparatus for automatically actuating roving bobbin exchange operations in a textile yarn spinning apparatus. The spinning stations are divided into equal groups and a roving bobbin exchange operation is actuated at each group by a suitable control system, e.g. a microprocessor, as a function of the number of spinning stations of the group identified as down with uncorrectable yarn breaks and as a further function of the total elapsed operating time of the group since the last bobbin exchange operation.

Method and apparatus for automatically exchanging roving bobbins

Controlling the stop of the feed of roving in a spinning machine in which yarn is wound on spindles through travelers rotating on rings and in which a stop motion is actuated to stop the feed of the roving to drafting rolls in response to detecting a yarn break and is subsequently deactuated to permit roving feed during a yarn break repair operation. The stop motion includes an arcuate stop member rotatably mounted on one of the drafting rolls for rotation into disposition between opposing rolls to separate the rolls and stop roving feed, with the stop member having a projecting cam engaging in a recess in a slide member that is manipulated by a spring and electromagnetic device to control manipulation of the stop member. Response of the stop motion to the detection of a yarn break is deactivated upon initiation of a yarn break repair operation and is maintained until the detection indicates that spinning has resumed for a predetermined length of time sufficient to indicate that the yarn break has been repaired, with the deactivating continuing in the event a yarn break has not been successfully repaired. The repair operation is repeated until successful or for a selected number of unsuccessful attempts, at which time a false simulation of resumption of spinning is given to reactivate response of the stop motion to the yarn break detection for deactuating the stop motion and to stop roving feed. Device for sensing whether a yarn break has been successfully repaired and the device for providing a false simulation are incorporated in an electronic circuit on the yarn break repair device, which circuit is connected through an optical transmission device to an electronic circuit on the spinning machine that includes the stop motion deactivating device.

Roving or sliver clamping device at the drafting unit of a spinning machine, with a clamp segment which enters in the operative position between the upper inlet roller and the lower inlet roller of the drafting unit, and which clamp segment raises the upper inlet roller from the lower inlet roller, and clamps the roving or sliver against the upper inlet roller, whereby the clamp segment is acted upon by an actuating element which causes its roving or sliver-clamping position, and the clamp segment is maintained in the position in which the roving or sliver clamping device is at rest by a holding element. The holding element includes means for storing energy and it positively counteracts the actuating element.

Along the ring bank of a twisting or spinning machine is provided a shaft rotatable about an axis parallel to the ring bank and supporting holders for thread-break sensors inductively responding to the orbiting of the travelers. Since the holders are independent of the ring bank, they can be swung out of the way to allow replacement or maintenance of the ring bank.
