A device for mounting a head support (12), which carries a magnetic head (13) at its front, on a head disc (15). The head support (12) is mounted in a separate housing (10) and the housing (10) is secured to the head disc (15) in order to improve the reliability.

The invention relates to a scanning device for a magnetic-tape apparatus, with a head disc which is rotatably mounted between an upper and a lower drum of a scanner and with head supports carrying magnetic heads, which supports are mounted at the periphery of the head disc. According to the invention, in order to simplify mounting and adjustment of the head supports, the head supports are constructed so as to allow them to be mounted on the head disc and adjusted from outside in a radial direction (R).

Scanning device for a magnetic-tape apparatus

An arrangement for varying the tape tension in a magnetic-tape apparatus includes a pivotably supported sensing lever (15) whose free end is pressed against the magnetic tape (14) under the influence of a spring (16) and, upon deflection from a neutral position (15'), is reset to its neutral position (15') by a control device (17, 18) through a variation of the tape tension. In order to enable the tape tension to be rapidly reduced for operation in the stand-by mode, an actuating mechanism (20) can be activated separately and includes a resilient actuating lever (22) which extends into the pivoting range of the sensing lever (15) upon activation of the actuating mechanism (20) and causes this sensing lever to be deflected in opposition to the force acting on the sensing lever (15).

Arrangement for varying the tape tension in a magnetic-tape apparatus

A rotary scanning device having a stationary upper and lower drum (1,2) is proposed, in which a cylindrical insert (15) with a servo head (16) is arranged in a radial bore (14) in the lower drum (2). The cylindrical insert (15) is secured to the circumference of a ring (18) which is concentrically supported in the lower drum (2) and which has an axial groove (19) in its circumferential surface for the adjustment of the angular position of the ring (18).

Rotary scanning device

A device for moving and guiding a motion-picture film through the film gate of a telecine scanner is proposed, which serves for exactly positioning a film frame. It comprises a carriage which is rectilinearly reciprocated in a guide perpendicular to the optical path of the film gate, on which carriage each film frame is immobilised during the uniform forward movement. The drive means for the carriage comprises a motor-driven cam having a sawtooth-shape with sinusoidal transitions and two latching positions.

A magnetic-tape-cassette apparatus includes a tape-loading device having supports (17, 18) which are longitudinally movable on guide members (19, 20) and are caused to perform oppositely directed synchronous movements by means of two traction-means drives (29 to 34) for the purpose of threading a magnetic tape (4). The two traction-means drives (29 to 34) are mechanically coupled by a third traction-means drive (35). Toothed belts (31, 34, 35) used as traction means are driven by a torque generated by an electric motor (36).

A tape drive mechanism for magnetic tape apparatus for tapes housed in cassettes has a pressure roller (29) at one end of a press-on lever (35) which is pivotally held on a drive shaft bearing (31) of a drive shaft (30) so that it can be inclined in a vertical plane. Another end of the press-on lever (35) has the guide cavity (37) in which a grade element (38) is held. The guide element is affixed at the end of a bascule lever (40) which is pivoted also on the supporting bearing (31) of the drive shaft (30). The bascule lever (40) is controlled by the progress of a tape threading operation of a tape loading device, the control being in the axial direction of the drive shaft (30).

The lead parking and sorting station is for receiving electrical leads (L), especially those which differ from one another and for presenting the leads for pick up by a block loading station. The parking and sorting station comprises a pair of ganged jaw wheels (12 and 16) each having lead gripping jaws (13). The jaw wheels (12 and 16) can be swung to move each jaw wheel ( 12 and 16) between a lead loading position (LP) and a lead sorting and discharge position (DP). When in its loading position (LP), each jaw wheel (12 and 16) is driven by a unidirectional stepping motor (14) in constantly spaced steps, to pick up a lead (L) at each step. When it has been loaded with leads (L) each jaw wheel (12 and 16) is swung to its sorting and discharge position (DP) where it is driven by a bidirectional stepping motor (18), in steps, the length and direction of which are determined by a pre-arranged harness making program, the leads being picked up by the block loading station at a pick up position (PP).

Electrical lead parking and sorting station

A method of manufacturing electrical harnesses is disclosed in which wires are fed through a loading zone and then clamped in the loading zone in side-by-side parallel relationship in an array. The wires are then cut and the clamped array of wires is moved laterally of the axes of the wires past a succession of crimping machines or the like. At each of the machines, a preselected wire is moved axially from the array so that its end is presented to the machine and a terminal is crimped onto the wire. The method of the invention is capable of producing harnesses comprising a plurality of discrete wires having different types of discrete terminals on their ends.

Method of manufacturing electrical harnesses

The assembly comprises a first slide (34) carrying a wire insertion tool (38) and a second slide (80) carrying support tools (92). As the slide (34) descends through a working stroke to cause the wire insertion tool (38) to insert a wire (W) into the wire slot (18) of an electrical terminal (10') of a multicontact electrical connector (2), support noses (96) of the support tools (92) which are in an open position, enter the mouths of the wire slots (18) of the next adjacent terminals. The wire insertion tool (38) continues to descend past the noses (96) to insert the wire (W) into the slot (18) of the terminal (10') and the support tools (92) close so that their noses (96) engage the terminals (10) on either side of the terminal (10') to be loaded with wire, thereby to restrain splaying of that terminal (10') as the wire (W) is inserted into its wire slot (18).

Wire insertion tooling assembly

The apparatus is for loading electrical terminals (T) on leads (L) into cavities (TC) in an electrical connector block (B). The apparatus comprises a lead clamp (240) which is actuable to clamp a lead (L). The lead clamp (240) is mounted on a first slide (369) which is movable along a vertical axis (Z--Z) relative to a second slide (408), which is in turn movable along a first horizontal axis (Y--Y) relative to a carriage (402) which is slidable along a second horizontal axis (X--X) at right angles to the first horizontal axis (Y--Y). Drive motors (414, 410 and 416) are actuable according to a harness making program, to cause the lead clamp (240) to insert a terminal (T) on a lead (L) gripped by the lead clamp (240), into any terminal receiving cavity (TC) which has been selected in accordance with a program.

Block loading apparatus

A wire inserting ram (3) is reciprocably mounted in a tool frame (1) which defines a guideway for a connector (7) extending transversely of the ram path. Spring biased wire-grippers (20) are mounted above a wire pusher (27, 28) at a forward end of the ram (7) to support a wire (22) against displacement on trimming between a pusher part (29) and a shear plate (18) on the frame, on forward movement of the ram (7). A bore (36) in the frame allows passage of trimmed wire. Cam means (26) on the frame (1) is arranged to engage the wire grippers (20) on withdrawal of the ram (7) to urge them against the spring bias to an open condition.

Hand tool for terminating wires in a connector

The apparatus is for terminating wires (W) to terminals (8) in a connector housing (4), for shearing from the housing (4), a cover (14) which is hinged thereto and for placing the cover (14) on the housing (4) to cover the connections. The connector housing (4) is conveyed by means of a first shuttle (50) to a cover shearing station (CS) at which the cover (14) is sheared from the housing (4) and is driven into a second shuttle (84). The first shuttle (50) is then moved to a terminating station (TS) at which wires are terminated to the terminals (8) by tooling (130) after which the second shuttle (84) is moved to the terminating station (TS) and the tooling (130) is operated to drive the severed cover (14) from the second shuttle (84) onto the connector housing (4).

Apparatus for terminating an electrical wire to an electrical connector

Wire jig intended for use in a wire processing machine comprises a plurality of wire clamps in side-by-side aligned positions forming a stack. The stack is supported on a frame and the individual clamps are movable laterally from the stack in a direction parallel to the axes of wires held in the stack. Each clamp has a first actuator engaging portion which is engageable by a first actuator for sliding the individual clamp from its aligned position to its extended position.

Wire jig intended for use in a harness-making machine or the like

Crimping press comprises an anvil and a die which is movable towards and away from the anvil. The anvil is moved by a rotating shaft having a crank-type coupling to the die. The shaft is capable of limited movement in the direction of movement of the die towards the anvil. The shaft is supported against such movement by a yieldable shaft support that is calibrated to resiliently yield upon development of a predetermined reaction force in the die during the final stages of crimping. When a terminal is crimped onto a relatively small diameter wire, the shaft will not be moved at all or will be moved by only a slight amount if the predetermined force is reached. When a terminal is crimped onto a larger diameter wire, the predetermined reaction force will be developed before the die reaches the limit of its travel towards the anvil and the shaft will move away from the anvil to accommodate the remaining movement of the crank pin.
