The invention relates to a method for transparently exchanging data packets with a packet-oriented network, via which a number of network elements and a network node device are connected based on a common access method. The network elements are allocated unique local addresses only within the network. The network node device connects the packet-oriented network to an external device based on a point-to-point protocol and performs an address conversion of the address of a network element, said address being allocated within the packet-oriented network, into an address valid for the external device. A verification of message header entries of the data packets exchanged between the external device and the network element permits the establishment of a temporary transparent connection of the network element to the external device in the event an entry is detected the characterizes an expanded point-to-point protocol, e.g. PPPoE, whereby the address newly allocated by the external device is transmitted to the external device without address conversion.

Method for transparently exchanging data packets

A method is provided for switching data between appliances in a packet-oriented local area network and an external appliance connected to the local area network via a router. The appliances in the local area network, including the router, respectively have a network address and an appliance address. The external appliance has an associated network address. An appliance address request relating to the assigned network address is responded to with the appliance address of the router. The router forwards packets containing the assigned network address and the appliance address of the router as destination addresses from the local area network to the external appliance.

Method and router for switching data between a local area network and an external appliance

A method and apparatus are disclosed for adjusting the bandwidth of a connection between at least two communication endpoints in a data network via a monitoring unit and a control unit. The connection in the data network is assigned at least one transmission channel for data transmission. The user data is, in this case, allocated to at least one communication connection; in particular a voice connection. The monitoring unit monitors the signaling connection for requests for at least one further communication connection; in particular, a voice connection. When a request occurs, it signals to the control unit to assign to the connection one or more additional free transmission channels for the at least one requested communication connection.

Method and apparatus for adjusting the bandwidth of a connection between at least two communication endpoints in a data network

On receiving a message in a communications device, a sender or destination network address is checked to determine whether the network address is intended for address conversion. In cases in which the network address is intended for address conversion, a received virtual destination network address is converted to a communications-device-internal destination network address, or a received communications-device-internal sender network address is converted to a virtual sender network address.
