A buckle folding machine is provided with a device with which the folding rollers (W through W ) can be automatically set to different folding gap widths as a function of the measured or calculated thickness of a sheet of paper or stack passing through the folding gap (F through F ). The folding rollers to be adjusted are mounted on pivoted levers ( ), which are mounted coaxially in pairs and which be pivoted against permanent restoring forces under the effect of electrically controllable adjusting members (S through S ). The adjusting members are actuated by an electronic process computer, which calculates the folding gap widths to be set in the particular case according to a preset working program from measured and/or manually entered paper thicknesses or stack thicknesses and/or fold types. The adjusting members (S through S ) comprise a plurality of pneumatic working cylinders, which are arranged in a row in a cascade-like pattern, and whose working strokes mutually add up. The setting of the folding rollers can thus be performed very rapidly and also temporarily for even a short duration.

Buckle folding machine with adjustable folding gap widths

Buckle folding machine including folding pockets, which have a paper stop each. One folding pocket being for collection and subsequent joint folding of a plurality of sheets. From the folding pocket the collected sheets of paper pass together through a folding mechanism, having a draw-in point formed by upper and lower draw-in rollers and having at least one pair of folding rollers forming a folding point. A sheet feeder with a conveyor track directed toward the draw-in point, in which a stacking ramp is located, is arranged in front of the draw-in point. To guarantee trouble-free operation even when the intake depth is smaller than the greatest sheet size, an additional sheet drive, which partially conveys the newly arriving sheet through the draw-in point into a collecting folding pocket arranged behind it in a position in which it is lifted off from the conveyor track or from the sheets deposited in the conveyor track behind the stacking ramp, is arranged between the draw-in point, which is provided with an open passage gap, and the stacking ramp at a vertically spaced location above the conveyor track.

A motion indicating device used especially to monitor the movement of sheets of paper, which are moved via conveyor paths. A scanning device has a rotatably mounted scanning member, which lies on the scannable surfaces of the moving sheet of paper and is set into rotation by same, and which is provided with signal elements, which generate motion signals in a stationary electronic signal transmitter by their rotary movements. The scanning member is a ball (8) with uneven weight distribution or a hollow ball (81, 82). The ball is guided freely rotatably in a guide cage (7) and has at least one signal element. A signal transmitter is arranged on a side located diametrically opposite the contact point (19) of the ball (8) and is directed in this plane of rotation toward the ball (8).

Motion indicating device for moving objects

A buckling-type paper sheet folder comprises a protective housing (7) and two pairs of folding cylinders (W1, W2, W3, W4) which are mounted in a cylinder frame (1) and conjointly driven by an electric motor (4). Folding pockets (5,6) and the cylinder frame are enclosed on all sides by the housing which has two parts, namely a base (8) and a cover (9), that are hinged and/or detachably connected to each other. In the base, a box-like compartment (12) is formed below the folding pockets accommodating the cylinder frame. The cover comprises a wall (45) extending between vertical side walls (40,41) and covering the upper foldin pocket (5) and having a portion (48) forming the upper boundary of a sheet intake opening. The cover further comprises a second wall (54) extending above the second folding pocket (6) inwardly, to form the lower boundary of the intake opening (51), and having a front portion 39. The parting lines of the vertical housing walls extend at least partly close to the plane of the folding pockets.

Buckling-type paper sheet folder with protective housing

A buckle folding machine with at last one pair of folding rollers and at least one folding pocket (1). The folding pocket includes a top rail (43), which extends over the width of the folding pocket (1) and is attached to lateral toothed belts (26, 27) and has, on its side facing the folding pocket mouth (9), a plurality of stop fingers (44). The stop fingers have front end faces (48), located in a common plane, serve together as a paper stop within the folding pocket (1), and which can be brought by the toothed belts (26, 27) into a front deflecting position, in which their front end faces (48) together act as a paper deflector and guide the material arriving at the folding pocket mouth (9) for folding past the folding pocket (1) and into the next folding station (F2).

Buckle folding machine having a moveable deflector

A paper-folding machine with a plurality of folding rollers, which form a folding station in pairs and the distances between whose axes can be set to different folding gap widths corresponding to the paper thickness to be processed and the number of layers of paper passing through the individual folding stations, as well as with mechanical or electronic feed limiters, which are arranged in front of the individual folding stations and can be set individually to different feed lengths. The thickness of the incoming material to be folded, which is determined by means of a thickness-measuring device (40), and the sheet length of the arriving material to be folded, which is determined by a length-measuring device (41), as well as the desired type of folding and/or the set feed lengths of the individual feed limiters (T1-T4), are entered into a process computer (20) to determine the folding gap widths of the individual pairs of folding rollers (W1-W5). The folding gap widths determined are always displayed in digital form and/or sent to a follow-up control device (35), for which they serve as set values for continuously adjusting the individual distances (a) between the axes to these folding gap widths that correspond to a single or multiple thickness of the material to be folded.

Paper-folding machine with adjustable folding rollers

An setup folding machine with at least two folding stations (F1, F2), which are formed by a pair of folding rollers (W1/W2; W2/W3) each. An intake device is provided including two feed rollers (T1, T2), which determines the speed of feed of the material to be folded, the intake device is located in a feed web (4) moving past the first folding station (F1). A enclosure feed mechanism is positioned directed toward the first folding station (F1), arranged behind the intake device. In order for an enclosure to be able to be optionally inserted into the first or second fold, the first folding station (F1) is associated with a knife-like deflecting member (6), which can be moved to the first folding station (F1) while the material is being deflected at the same time to form a fold, and can be actuated individually for each folding process by an electronic control device (21). An electromagnetcontrollable sheet deflector acting as a second deflecting member (26) is arranged directly in front of the folding pocket (25) located between the first folding station and the second folding station (F2), and the second deflecting member (26) can be moved from its resting position to the second folding station (F2) after the material to be folded has entered the folding pocket (25), while the material to be folded (43, 55) is deflected at the same time to form a fold.

Setup folding machine with enclosure feed mechanism

The paper folding machine is provided with a roller pair (T1,T2) which forms an intake zone (E) and determines the velocity of feed of the material to be folded, and with at least one pair of folding rollers (W1,W2,W3), which forms a folding zone (F1) and is parallel to the former pair of rollers. A stopless feed limiting device, which determines the actual folding length and can be actuated individually for each folding operation by a microprocessor and/or an electronic control circuit as a function of a feed measuring unit, is arranged in a material feed path (4) which extends past the folding zone (F1,F2). In order to reach narrow folding length tolerances even at high working speeds, on the side of the maerial feed path (4) opposite the folding zone (F1,F2), the feed limiting device is provided with a knife-like or bar-like deflecting member (6), which extends over the width of the material feed path and can be moved toward the folding zone (F1,F2) at a velocity corresponding to the velocity of feed of the material to be folded, while the material to be folded is deflected to form a fold.

Sheet deflecting device for a paper folding machine

A device for folding successively fed sheets which have a plurality of transversely spaced dried adhesive areas thereon includes a plurality of folding rolls arranged in a sheet feedback between which the sheets are fed and which have at least one pocket into which the sheets are fed after they have been folded at least once as they are passed between folding rolls. The sheet wetting device comprises a plurality of moveable belts which are arranged over the sheets as they are fed through the sheet feed path, they are guided and moved through a path in which they overlie each sheet in succession. Construction includes means for holding at least some of the belts into contact with the sheets as they are moved in order to wet the sheets in selected areas in it includes means for passing the belts into association with a belt wetting device or reservoir so that they wet the dry areas which they contact. The construction advantageously includes means for shifting at least some of the belts into contact with the sheets only at selected areas in which the belts are moved into association with the sheets. Arrangement for shifting the sheets or the belts so that they move into contact with each other only in selected areas includes a electro-magnetically operated device to move these elements relatively.

Chief folding machine with eye adhesive moistener

A sheet separator for a sheet feeder comprises a friction cylinder which is rotatable for feeding a sheet from a stack of sheets. A retaining member is mounted for radial movement with respect to the friction cylinder. The retaining member has a friction surface which holds back other sheets in the stack and which forms with the friction cylinder a passage gap which is adjusted to the thickness of a sheet to be fed. A carrier is connected to and supports the retaining member. An adjustment mechanism is provided between the carrier and the retaining member for adjusting the passage gap width. A bracket is mounted for radial movement on the carrier and has a contact surface for engaging the friction cylinder or a sheet held in the passage gap. Signal switch is provided in the bracket and is activated by a checking element which is movably mounted to the bracket and engaged with either the carrier or the retaining member. The switch changes state when a selected relative position is established between the retaining member and the contact surface of the bracket. A circuit is connected to the switch for indicating its change in state. The selected position is chosen for establishing the correct passage gap for a sheet of paper to be fed.

A buckling-type paper sheet folder comprises at least two pairs of folding cylinders W1 and W2 and two folding pockets F1, F2. The adjustable sheet stops 65,66, embodied by stop rails, of the folding pockets F1, F2 are secured to endless belts 67,68,69 and 70 which are drivable, conjointly two and two, through a manually actuable shaft 79 or 80. Scales of length S1 to S8 are carried on scale bands 48 and 49 which are associated each with one of the folding pockets F1 or F2 and displaceable by, the respective drive shafts 79, 80 in synchronism with the sheet stops 65, 66. The scale bands 48 and 49 are mounted in the housing to be visible through windows which are provided with reference marks. The sheet stops 65 and 66 can be set to the desired position through the closed housing by means of knobs 81 and 82. To facilitate the setting of the sheet stops, a plurality of scales S1 to S8 is provided on each scale band, each associated with a folding manner and sheet size, and made separately noticeable by a light.

Buckling-type sheet folder

A folding machine includes an entrance feed for the infeed of materials to be folded which are operated on by a plurality of folding devices arranged along the feed path, each of which feeds the material after folding into a receiving pocket which has an adjustable stop. The stop is adjusted so that the materials being fed are received in the pocket at the correct location so as to position them for subsequent folding or for ejecting at an ejection point. The invention provides a conveyor belt which operates so that an upper transport reach is movable below the ejection point to receive the folded materials. Associated with the conveyor is a brake element which overlies the materials which are fed on the conveyor transport reach. The brake element rests on the folding material and is mounted so that it applies a yieldable pressure on the materials as they moved therealong. A flexible member is connected between the brake element and the adjustable stop of the last folding pocket so that the position of the brake element can be adjusted relative to the ejection point by the same amount that the adjustable stop is adjusted in respect to its associated pocket.

Series feeding device for a folding machine

A pneumatic sheet feeder for removing individual sheets from a stack comprises a table having a surface for supporting a stack of sheets. A pair of parallel guide rails are provided on the table and with facing surfaces so that the stack is confined between the guide rails for movement in a feed direction across the table. Blast nozzles are provided in the guide rails for blowing air against the stack to form an air cushion between lower sheets of the stack. A suction cylinder is rotatably mounted to the table and includes a suction chamber therein for receiving a vacuum. Radial openings in the suction chamber cause a suction induced adhesion of a leading edge of a lowermost feed in the stack so that with rotation of the cylinder, the lowermost feed is fed in the feed direction away from the rest of the stack. A single blower is provided with a pair of two-way solenoid valves and a switching circuit is provided for alternately activating the valves. The valves are connected to a single blower having a discharge line and a suction line so that by simply switching the valves over between two positions, the blast nozzles are provided with compressed air and the suction chamber is provided with a vacuum.

Pneumatic sheet feeder

A folding machine for folding sheet material comprises a housing defining a space and having an in-take opening and a discharge opening for sheet material before and after it is folded. A frame is provided in the housing and carries four rollers which are engaged with each other to form a take-in nip for receiving sheet material from the in-take opening, a first folding nip for executing a first fold on the paper and a second folding nip for executing a second fold of the paper. The rollers are engaged to each other by gears and are rotated by a single electric motor for moving the sheet material from the take-in nip to the first folding nip and from the first folding nip to the second folding nip. A pocket is formed upstream of the first folding nip in the housing for receiving the sheet of paper to stop its forward progress. The sheet of paper is continued to be fed by the take-in nip so that it folds into the first folding nip which draws the now once folded paper from the first pocket. A second pocket is provided downstream of the first folding nip to permit the second folding nip to form a second fold whereupon the folded sheet material is discharged through the discharge opening of the housing. The housing is formed in two articulated parts as is the frame so that the housing can be opened. Three of the rollers which define the take-in and second folding nips are connected to one part of the frame so that when the housing is opened these rollers are separated from the other roller. The housing and frame are designed to open on a plane which is near a tangential plane passing through the first folding nip. When the housing is opened the rollers and the pockets are exposed for removing paper that might have jammed in the folding machine.

Paper folding machine

A device for distributing sheets in a predetermined sequence into a plurality of collecting pockets successively arranged in a horizontal sheet feed path includes a guide member connected at the upper end of each of a plurality of walls successively arranged beneath the feed path to define the collecting pockets. The guide member extends at a substantially equal angle of inclination relative to the feed path and a deflection plane through which the sheets are deflected. A guide tongue connected to the guide plate extends in the same plane of inclination of the guide plate and projects into an adjacent one of the collecting pockets. A guide fin, connected to the guide plate, is provided for preventing areal contact between a deflected sheet and a guide plate.
