A windshield mounting arrangement comprises foamed PVC material or the like integral with softer PVC material defining a channel. The channel has inner lips which mount the arrangement on a mounting flange. The soft material defines a ledge-shaped surface for receiving the windshield glass. The glass is secured in position by adhesive in a channel adjacent the ledge and also by a stiff fixing member which locks into a slot below the ledge.

Window glass fixture arrangements

A sealing and trimming strip arrangement in two parts which are locked together by means of a key carried by one part which fits into a channel defined in the other part. The latter part is secured to a flanged joint running around a vehicle door opening by means of double-sided adhesive strip and carries a soft seal. The first part is adapted to trap and hold the head or other lining material on the inside of the vehicle body.

Assembled trimming and sealing strip

A mounting arrangement for mounting a windscreen or windshield glass is made of plastics or rubber material with an embedded metal carrier for mounting the arrangement on a flanged joint running around the window opening. The flexible material defines a ledge-shaped surface having a recess for receiving mastic. The mounting arrangement is delivered to the vehicle manufacturer with the mastic in position and covered by a thin flap. To facilitate entry of the window glass onto the ledge-shaped surface, a lip adjacent the ledge may be bent downwards into a slot. At the same time, the flap is pulled outwardly from under the distal edge of the window glass. Thereafter, the flap lies along the external peripheral edge of the window glass and the latter is secured in position by the mastic. A stiffening member is then placed in the slot. The arrangement provides substantially flush-mounting of the window glass, and no part of the flexible material or of the stiffening member extends further outwards of the window opening than the flap to any significant extent.

Window glass mounting arrangements

A mounting arrangement for mounting a windshield glass is made of plastics or rubber material with an embedded metal carrier for mounting the arrangement on a flanged joint running around the window opening. The flexible material defines a slit for receiving part of a metal frame which runs around the periphery of the window glass and may be adhesively secured to it before assembly. To facilitate insertion of the window glass, the flexible material may be bent outwardly, and is then allowed to resile and locked in the resiled position by inserting a stiffening member into a slot. The arrangement provides substantially flush-mounting of the window glass, and no part of the flexible material or of the stiffening member extends further outwards of the window opening than the metal frame to any significant extent.

A windscreen mounting arrangement comprises a first part made of plastics materials in which is embedded a reinforcing metal carrier and defining a first channel, and a second part made of rubber and also defining a channel. The part has, running alongside its channel, a longitudinal slot whose mouth faces in the same direction as the channel of that part and whose walls and base are reinforced with an embedded metal carrier. The two parts are fitted together so that one side wall of the first part fits tightly into and is secured within the slot of the second part. This produces first and second channels running side-by-side and facing in opposite directions. One of these channels fits over and grips a flange surrounding the window opening so that the other channel runs alongside the window opening for receiving the window glass.

A window glass mounting arrangement comprises flexible material which is formed to define first and second channels side-by-side and facing in opposite directions. The first channel is sized to fit over and grip a support member surrounding the window opening so that the second channel then runs alongside the window opening for receiving the window glass. The wall of the second channel furthest from the first channel has a slot for receiving a stiffening member for stiffening that wall so as to secure the window glass in the second channel. The material defining the first channel has embedded in it a metal carrier of substantially channel-shape which is capable of a limited amount of lengthwise compression but substantially no lengthwise stretching. The arrangement is made slightly oversize and then compressed into the opening. This enables the glass to 'float' slightly in use and reduces stretching of the rubber at bends in the opening.

There is disclosed a flexible channel-shaped sealing or finishing strip in which a length of unvulcanized rubber (or like material) extends along the strip on part of the inside surface of the channel but so as to have a free surface facing the interior of the channel, the free surface in use making contact with and adhering to at least part of an edge over which the strip is fitted, so as to improve the gripping and sealing properties of the strip.

Channel-shaped sealing and finishing strips

An arrangement for sealing and retaining a window glass (such as a motor vehicle windshield) in an opening is disclosed for use where the window opening has a surrounding flange directed inwardly of the opening. A series of U-shaped metal clips are placed onto the flange at intervals. Each clip additionally has at least two arms which project outwardly of the opening from near to the free edge of one leg of each clip, the arms of each clip being provided with teeth and together defining a mouth. A continuous channel-shaped flexible strip structure is then placed over the U-shaped clips and the flange between the clips, but so as to leave the projecting arms clear. The strip structure includes two outwardly projecting sealing lips, against which the window glass seats. A beading, of T-shape in cross-section, is then placed around the entire periphery of the window glass, with the leg of the T extending into the mouths provided by the projecting arms on each clip and locking with the teeth therein. The beading serves a decorative, sealing and retaining function.

Windows

A channel-shaped structure is shown in which a channel-shaped metal carrier has a covering of flexible material which is arranged to define a gripping rib running along and protruding from one inside wall of the channel. Metal reinforcement at least partly extends into the gripping rib. Also disclosed is a metal carrier comprising a series of U-shaped metal elements which are spaced from each other and are each provided with a corrugation which runs around the U from the end of one leg of the U to the end of the other leg thereof.
