A section straightening machine is operated by a method which involves passing the structural sections through the array of straightening tools. Section straightening forces are applied to adjustable shafts carrying the tools and adjusters at the service sides of the shaft applying forces acting counter to the section straightening forces.

Method of operating a section straightening machine

In a straightening machine for straightening sections like rolled beams, wherein tools () are arranged on a plurality of mutually parallel driven straightening shafts () disposed above and below the alignment line in the transport direction of the product to be straightened, and of which preferably the upper straightening shafts () are adjustable for setting the straightening gap, the straightening shafts () are individually adjustable and each have on both sides an adjusting means engaging straightening shaft ends () whereby in straightening operations at least the adjusting means on the service side () remote from the drive side I is provided with a force (F) acting opposite to the straightening force (F) relevant hereto.

Section straightening machine

A method of coiling steel rod arriving continuously comprises the steps of rotating about an upright axis a coiling basket defining a space centered on the axis and defined by an annular inner wall, an annular outer wall, and a floor between the walls, and feeding the rod into the space to form a coil resting on the floor and formed by a multiplicity of turns. The coil is, once formed, raised out of the space and simultaneously axially compacted and is also stabilized. More particularly the coil is stabilized by spraying an outer surface of the coil with a coolant while raising the coil out of the space. Normally the coil is rotated about the axis as the coil outer surface is being sprayed.

Coiling steel rod

A rotary basket winder with water cooling for winding a material includes a tank in the shape of an open topped point containing a rotatable winding carrier with two upwardly extending concentrically arranged rings of winding rods defining an annular winding space between them. A stationary guide pipe leads material into the winding space. A winding disk can be raised and lowered within the tank. Previously, in rotary winding baskets, the problem has been to effect uniform cooling, particularly in the center of the winding basket because of the formation of a funnel, and to afford trouble-free annular delivery after the winding process with high-strength work material characteristics. In the present rotary basket winder, coolant openings are located in the upper part of the tank and are arranged to recirculate a sufficient quantity of coolant into the center of the tank from above. In addition, rigid pins are mounted on the tank above the winding rods of the outer ring and form a ring with an inside diameter equal approximately to the inside diameter of the outer ring. Preferably, these pins are radially adjustable. Further, the winding rods of the inner ring have a length corresponding approximately to the height of the coolant level in the center of the inner ring.
