A device for measuring and monitoring tools of a machine tool, wherein the machine tool comprises a spindle shaft for the tool, the shaft being arranged in a spindle housing, wherein a work piece with good electric conductivity can be machined using the tool, wherein the spindle shaft is electrically insulated from the spindle housing, includes a measuring and monitoring system. The measuring and monitoring system measures at least one electric measurement, which depends on the contacting state between the tool and the work piece. A rotary transmitter contacts the rotating spindle shaft to measure the measurement detectable between the tool and the work piece, wherein the rotary transmitter is connected with the spindle housing in an electrically insulated manner.

Method and device for measuring process parameters of a material working process

The wear condition of a milling tool is determined by detecting vibrations of the milling tool and a metal workpiece and generating wavelet coefficients which are utilized to evaluate the wear condition of the workpiece. The vibrations are detected at several locations along the metal workpiece or upon a different workpiece under comparable conditions and evaluating workpiece wear on the basis of changes in wear condition parameters at different locations and/or comparable cutting engagement between the milling tool and similar or different workpieces.

Conventional methods for reprofiling profiles of wheel sets by lathe machining predominantly produce continuous chips which interfere with the operating process, which can cause damage to the machine and which require continuous attention on the part of the operating personnel. The production of short fragmented chips through the use of suitable cutting edge geometry is impossible because of the continuous change of the cutting data during the reprofiling of such work pieces. In order to eliminate this problem, the profile is faced off or turned through the alternating use of hard-metal cutting materials and heavy-duty cutting materials and by adapting the cutting data to the cutting material then in use, wherein the heavy-duty cutting material is used in those profile regions in which a shock or sudden load on the cutting material is not expected, while the hard-metal cutting materials are used in the remaining regions. However, it is also possible to initially examine the wheels of the wheel set with regard to the presence of spots that would subject the lathe tools to a sudden shock or load; the examination results then determine the tools that are to be used as well as the cutting characteristics or data.
