A guide for directing a print head in a printing device parallel to a platen, the guide being constructed of a unitary extrusion of a metallic material having two guide rails joined by a thin web of material. The structural arrangement of the guide offers a high resistance against bending so that a constant predetermined distance can be maintained between the print head and the platen.

A printer tractor position clamp has two substantially parallel arms joined by a member having shape and size to engage a guide shaft and to secure a printer tractor to the shaft. Movement of the two arms towards each other releases the clamp from the guide shaft to permit lateral movement of the tractor along the shaft.

A paper guide extends around the platen of a printing machine and has a flexible extension which bears against the front of the moving printing mechanism included in the printing machine. The close proximity of the paper guide to the printing mechanism of the printing machine serves to guide the paper as closely as possible into the small gap between the printing head and the platen and also to guide the paper as accurately as possible out through the paper-exit opening of the cabinet of the printing machine. Being so closely guided (particularly in the case of multiple sheet carbon set-ups or the joints of fan-fold paper), the leading edge or a fold of the paper is less likely to catch on the ribbon or get caught on the edge of the paper-exit opening of the cabinet. The flexible final guide extends so high up the printing mechanism side of the platen that it actually bears against the printing head and is flexibly deflected by the printing head as the printing head moves across the front of the platen.

Flexible paper guiding apparatus

An ink supply system for an ink jet recorder wherein ink is emitted by a nozzle and impinges on a sheet of paper. An open-cell-foam-filled container supplies ink to a tube-shaped pump chamber which holds at least enough ink to print one page of copy. The tube is squeezed in such a manner as to deliver ink at a substantially constant pressure to the nozzle, which forms the jet. Ink emitted by the nozzle but not impinging on the paper is returned to the container. A check valve prevents ink from returning from the tube-shaped pump chamber to the foam-filled container except via the nozzle. Release of the squeezed tube draws ink from the foam-filled container into the tube-shaped pump chamber.

A constant pressure pump in which a tube containing the fluid is squeezed between an anvil and a ram, the two surfaces of which are shaped so as to maintain the same area of contact between the ram and the tube in a plane substantially perpendicular to the motion of the ram during substantially the entire squeezing operation and wherein the collapsed portions of the tube are permitted to escape from the ram area into slots substantially parallel with the motion of the ram.
