Lubricant compositions comprising .alpha.-olefin/maleinimide copolymers is disclosed. Also disclosed is a process for the shaping of thermoplastic synthetic resins utilizing .alpha.-olefin/maleinimide copolymers.

Thermoplastic resin shaping with olefin/maleimide copolymer lubricant

A lubricant for use in the processing of plastics is disclosed. The lubricant comprises a polyalkylene oxide made from a monomer selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, non-substituted, 1,2-alkylene oxides containing from about six to about 40 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof, said polyalkylene oxide having an average molecular weight from about 1,000 to about 6,000. Also disclosed is a process for using such lubricants in the shaping of thermoplastic polymers.

This invention relates to moldable thermoplastic compositions comprising a thermoplastic polymer admixed with a minor shaping processing improving amount of an esterified olefin-maleic anhydride copolymers formed from olefins having 2 to about 24 carbon atoms, where the esterifying alcohol is a monovalent alcohol having 2 to about 20 carbon atoms and where the ratio of maleic anhydride to esterifying alcohol is about 1:0.5 to about 1:2.
