A cover of an openable motor vehicle roof includes a cover plate which is surrounded by a plastic frame formed by foaming or injection, and which connects at least one attachment part to the cover plate. The plastic frame includes at least one sensor element which is located on one wall of the attachment part and which signals pinching of a body part or article when the closes on an object by partial deformation of the plastic frame.

A cover (2) of an openable motor vehicle roof (1) has a cover plate (3) which is surrounded in at least one edge area by a foamed-on or injected-on plastic frame (4) which, at the same time, is used to connect at least one attachment part (inside cover sheet 6) of the cover. At least one sensor element (8) is integrated into the plastic frame (4) and it signals pinching of a body part or an article (11) by means of partial deformation of the plastic frame (4) when cover (2) is closed.

In the case of a sliding cover of a motor vehicle slide-and-lift roof, said sliding cover being composed of transparent material and being provided with a rim moulded on integrally at the edge, said sliding cover accommodates a reinforcing frame having a peripheral integral moulding. To ensure that parts associated with the reinforcing frame do not detract from the external appearance, the integral moulding is in each case designed as a screen running in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and projecting towards the vehicle interior.

A method and apparatus are proposed for sealing the gap between a rigid sliding roof and a fixed roof region of a motor car surrounding the same by means of a cavity seal element which is housed beneath the fixed roof region by a groove formed between the latter and a rail attached to the roof which exhibits mutually spaced perforations in its upper member. The cover of a rigid sliding roof is sealed against the solid roof region around it by means of a peripheral hollow chamber seal, a bead of this seal being only locally in contact with protrusions which are formed at the front of a rail fixing the hollow chamber seal. So that an adjustment procedure can be carried out in the case of a lack of pressure effect or in the case of too much pressure effect by means of tools, one appropriate to each case, each protrusion is aligned with and at a distance from a penetration which can be plastically deformed so that in each case the protrusion is moved towards or away from the penetration.

A frame encircling at least part of the roof opening forms a rain gutter extending below both sides of the roof opening. Strip-shaped shield elements are attached at both sides of the cover, essentially perpendicular to the cover surface, and substantially flush with its lateral edges. The shield elements are flexible, at least in the area of their lower edges, and are fixedly connected with the cover along their upper edges. In the raised position of the cover, at least a major extent of the length of the shield elements will bear laterally against the lateral edges of the roof opening.

In order to be able to cover a large tolerance range with a sliding cover for a motor vehicle, which is sealed by way of a circumferential hollow chamber seal, the hollow chamber seal is provided with a bead which is supported only locally at the end face of a rail retaining the hollow chamber seal under a roof area. During the occurrence of excessively large, oversize tolerances, the hollow chamber seal can then enter into interstices formed between local raised portions of the end face when the deformation capability of the hollow chamber is exhausted.

Sliding and lifting roof for vehicles, having a rigid cover which in its closed position covers a roof opening in a fixed roof surface. The cover is mounted on guide rails extending in a direction parallel to the side edges of the roof opening, and can be selectively tilted so as to lift its rear edge above the fixed roof surface, or rearwardly slidably displaced below the fixed roof surface, after lowering of its rear end below the fixed roof surface. A vertically adjustable rain gutter is provided which is elevated when the cover is in its tilted and close positions, which rain gutter underlies the rear edge of the roof opening and, upon lowering, can be rearwardly displaced together with the cover. The rain gutter is connected with a tilting device which, when the cover is raised, causes the rain gutter to assume an inclined position such that the forward edge of the rain gutter forms a splashboard which projects upwardly above the rear edge of the roof opening.

For fastening a cover part at a frame part in which both parts have at least a metallic frame structure, spherical segments formed out of the frame part with fasteners in the form of balls are provided while the counter fasteners are constructed as collars which are components of the cover part and extend angularly bent in the direction of the frame part. After inverting the collars over the balls, each collar is pressed flat by a predetermined amount under straightening during a pressing operation in which the frame part serves as supporting surface so that at the end of the deformation operation, the collar is supported at the ball.
