A method is described for producing a light source, in particular a light source for optically exciting a laser device, for example a laser device of a laser ignition system of an internal combustion engine, including a diode laser having a plurality of emitters and a fiber optic device. The fiber optic device includes a plurality of optical fibers, each fiber having a first end and a lateral surface area. The first ends are situated relative to the emitters in such a way that light generated by the emitters is injected into the first ends of the optical fibers. The optical fibers are situated in abutment along their lateral surface areas, at least in the region of the first ends of the optical fibers. The method is characterized by the following steps: arranging a plurality of optical fibers which form a fiber section in a subregion, the fiber section being situated between two opposite pressing surfaces; heating the fiber section; and exerting a force on the heated optical fibers with the aid of the pressing surfaces. The force and the heating initially result in deformation of the heated optical fiber. The exerted force and/or a temperature of the optical fibers is/are selected in such a way that the deformation ceases when the optical fibers for the first time fill, at least largely, a region between the pressing surfaces.

Method for producing a light source having a diode laser and a plurality of optical fibers

A method is for operating a pump light source having a diode laser, which provides a pump light, in particular for optical pumping of a laser device. The pump light source is activated in a first mode of operation such that the diode laser assumes a predefinable target temperature, which lies in a range of a maximum of the coefficient of absorption of the laser-active solid of the laser device. In a second mode of operation, following the first mode of operation, the pump light source is activated such that it generates pump light to build up a population inversion in the laser-active solid of the laser device. In a third mode of operation, following the second mode of operation, the pump light source is activated such that it generates pump light to activate a laser operation in the laser device.

A laser spark plug, in particular for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, is described. A connection arrangement is provided in an end region of the laser spark plug facing the combustion chamber. The connection arrangement allow the laser spark plug to be connected to a prechamber module.

A laser spark plug, e.g., for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle or a heavy-duty gas engine, has an antechamber for receiving an ignitable medium and a combustion chamber window which separates the antechamber from a part of the laser spark plug facing away from the combustion chamber. At least one flow-guiding element is provided in the antechamber and is situated in such a way that it deflects a fluid flow, which occurs in the antechamber and moves toward the combustion chamber window, into a radially inner direction.

A light source, e.g., for optical excitation of a laser device, includes a diode laser having a large number of emitters and a light-guiding device, the light-guiding device including a large number of optical fibers. Each fiber has a first end and a lateral surface, the first ends being arranged relative to the emitters in such a manner that light generated by the emitters is coupled into the first ends of the optical fibers, the optical fibers being arranged in abutting relationship along their lateral surfaces at least in the region of their first ends. An ignition device, for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, having a laser device for generating laser pulses, and having an optical fiber device which is at least optically connected to the laser device for supplying the laser device with pumped light. The optical fiber device is configured and situated in the region of the laser device such that radiation incident in the region of the laser device and/or in the region of a combustion chamber associated with the laser device is injected into the optical fiber device. The optical fiber device advantageously allow the radiation which is injected into the optical fiber device to be analyzed, using a detector which is remotely situated, without having to provide additional, separate optical fiber devices for the radiation to be analyzed, because is conducted directly via the same optical fiber that is already used for supplying pumped light.

A laser ignition plug includes an antechamber into which the laser ignition plug is configured to irradiate laser radiation. The antechamber defines at least two overflow ducts that realize a fluid connection between the antechamber and a spatial region surrounding the antechamber. The at least two overflow ducts, with regard to one or more of (i) the radial spacing thereof from a longitudinal axis of the antechamber, (ii) the axial spacing thereof from an end region, which faces toward the combustion chamber, of the antechamber, and (iii) the alignment and/or geometry thereof, are arranged asymmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the antechamber.

A diode laser having a beam-forming device and a method for producing it are described. The diode laser includes at least one diode laser bar, the diode laser bar having a multitude of emitters, the emitters being disposed next to each other in the direction of their longitudinal axes. The diode laser includes a beam-forming device assigned to the diode laser bar, for the laser beam emerging from the diode laser bar, the beam-forming device having a light-guide device having a plurality of fibers, into which the laser beam is coupled. The maximum thickness of the optical fibers at their end facing the diode laser bar is considerably smaller than their width.

A method for manufacturing a laser-active solid having a bonded passive Q-switch is provided. A plane-parallel first wafer plate may be manufactured from a laser-active material. A second plane-parallel wafer plate may be manufactured from a material that is suitable as a passive Q-switch. The first wafer plate and the second wafer plate may be bonded to form a wafer block, which may then be coated on both end faces with a resonator mirror. Subsequently, the wafer block may be separated into multiple passively Q-switched solid state lasers.

A fuel-injection system for direct injection of fuel into a combustion chamber through a combustion-chamber top arranged opposite a piston has a fuel injector which includes an actuable valve-closure member. The valve-closure member cooperates with a valve-seat surface to form a sealing seat. A multitude of spray-discharge orifices generates a spray cloud, each spray-discharge orifice generating a fuel jet, and the multitude of fuel jets generating the spray cloud in the combustion chamber. A first opening angle of the spray cloud in a first plane is greater than a second opening angle in a second plane extending perpendicular to the first plane.
