In a lap winding apparatus for producing a batt lap, the batt is wound onto a tube which is rotatable about a fixed axis and is driven by a revolving endless belt. The belt is arranged in a loop, formed between two deflecting rolls and is tensioned by a tensioning device. The tube which is rotatable about a fixed axis, as well as the two deflecting rolls are dimensioned, and positioned relative to each other, in such a manner that the loop at the beginning of the lap winding process embraces the tube over an initial minimum wrapping angle equal to, or larger than, 120&deg; and preferentially equal to, or larger than, 180&deg;. For generating a tensioning force depending on the lap diameter, the tensioning device is associated with a control device.

Winding device

The gripper is movable in a path transverse to the bobbin tube supports of the magazine to be aligned with a bobbin tube. The gripper employs gripping elements which engage a limited arcuate accessible portion of a bobbin tube under a force sufficient to extract the tube during movement of the gripper to a retracted position. After release from the gripping elements a transfer chute directs a bobbin tube to a receiving apparatus for subsequent delivery to a machine needing same.

Apparatus for extracting bobbin tubes from a magazine

The yarn reserve forming device is constructed and operated to release a yarn loop for uncontrolled movement from a deflected yarn path into a normal yarn path for return to the withdrawal tube of the spinning machine. The yarn reserve forming device includes a yarn retainer which can be pivoted to release the yarn loop for immediate return to the withdrawal tube.
