A storage-stabile, radiation-hardenable, NCO-free aqueous emulsions based on ionic urethane-urea acrylates is disclosed. The emulsions are made up of partially acrylated cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates which have been acrylated by a hydroxyalkyl acrylate (to the extent of 10-60 equivalent-% NCO). These products are then reacted with polyhydroxy compounds (to the extent of 20-75 equivalent-% NCO), and then with sodium salts of aminocarboxylic acids (to the extent of 5-15 equivalent-% NCO), and finally they are reacted with water and/or aliphatic diamines (said aliphatic diamines in amounts corresponding to 1-5 equivalent-% NCO). The reaction product of the cycloaliphatic polyisocyanate with the hydroxy acrylate compounds and the polyols is taken up into ordinary organic solvents, and these solvent-containing reaction products are converted with aqueous solutions of the sodium salts of aminocarboxylic acids and then with water and/or with an amount of aliphatic diamines corresponding to 1-5 equivalent-% NCO, whereafter the organic solvent is distilled off.

Storage-stabile, radiation-hardenable, NCO-free aqueous emulsions

A storage-stable, substantially NCO-free urethane urea acrylate which after radiation curing forms strongly adhering, solvent resistant, wear resistant coatings containing isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) or adducts thereof which have been partially acrylated with one or more hydroxyacrylates to the extent of about 10-25 equivalent %, which material subsequently has been reacted to the extent of about 10-75 equivalent % with one or more polyhydroxy compounds, wherein the remaining NCO equivalents have been fixed with urea bonds with one or more primary or secondary diamino compounds having about 2 to 18 carbon atoms.

Moisture-hardening varnishes which have an isocyanate resin base of adducts of a mixture of diisocyanates, wherein the diisocyanate mixture has 88 to 99% by weight of 2-methyl-1,5-diisocyanatopentane and 12 to 1% by weight of 2-ethyl-1,4-diisocyanatobutane. These varnishes exhibit excellent thermal and oxidative stability and have excellent storage stability. An improvement in a process for the preparation of a solvent-free exclusively aqueous dispersion of a thermally linkable, storage stable, light stable polyurethane obtained by the reaction of a hydroxy group containing polyester composition and a diisocyanate in a ketonic solvent at 10.degree.-50.degree. C. employing the hydroxyl containing polyester and diisocyanate in amounts such that there are 1.5-2.0 NCO equivalents per OH group and the reaction product is thereafter reacted with a primary diamine, secondary diamine or diol in such an amount that 30-70% of the existing free NCO groups on said reaction product are reacted and the resultant reaction product is dispersed in water and said ketonic solvent is removed. The invention resides in that one uses as diisocyanate the uretdione of the 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexyl-isocyanate.
