This disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for punching workpieces. A punching tool is configured to move during a punching stroke along a stroke axis towards a workpiece to be punched. The punching tool is configured to move away from the punched workpiece during a return stroke. The punching tool includes first and second components configured to be coupled hydraulically for concurrent movement along the stroke axis. The punching tool includes a punching drive for moving the first component along the stroke axis. The punching apparatus is configured to move the second component relative to the first component at a first transmission ratio during the punching stroke. The punching apparatus is configured to move the second component relative to the first component at a second transmission ratio in response to a reaction force of the workpiece exceeding a threshold value of the punching drive during the punching stroke.

Punching a workpiece

In certain aspects of the invention, punching machines and tools for punching machines are provided that include mechanical devices driven by a driving device of the punching machines and are used to oscillate a tool insert. Such machines and tools can provide an increased frequency of the oscillating movement of the tool insert.

A mechanical device is used to change a laser nozzle of a nozzle mount of a laser processing machine. The mechanical device includes a nozzle magazine with at least one nozzle holder for storing a laser nozzle at a nozzle storage location, and a dirt collector. The nozzle holder is movable by means of a positioning device provided for that purpose or alternatively the dirt collector is movable by means of a positioning device provided for that purpose into a stand-by position defined on the mechanical device. The nozzle holder and the dirt collector can also be transferred to a position remote from the stand-by position with the respective positioning device.

Laser nozzle changing device

A mechanical device is used for mounting and/or dismounting a laser nozzle on and/or from a nozzle mount of a laser processing machine for processing workpieces, especially metal sheets. The mechanical device includes a nozzle magazine having a nozzle holder support on which a nozzle holder for a laser nozzle is supported. In addition, the mechanical device has a support positioning drive by means of which the nozzle holder support is positionable together with the nozzle holder in a support positioning direction. A lifting device of the mechanical device serves to position the nozzle holder, when positioned in the support positioning direction in a lifting stand-by position, relative to the nozzle holder support in a positioning lifting direction extending perpendicular to the support positioning direction.

Tool holding systems described herein include a tool holder configured to releasably retain a metal-processing tool and to define a tool holder passage extending along a stroke axis, an adjustment drive operable to rotate the tool holder about the stroke axis, and a stroke drive including a spindle operable independent of the adjustment drive to translate the tool holder along the stroke axis. The stroke drive defines a stroke drive passage cooperating with the tool holder passage to define a waste disposal passageway through the tool holding system.

Tool holding system

A mechanical device is used to change a laser nozzle on a nozzle receiving member of a laser processing machine for processing workpieces. The mechanical device has a nozzle magazine having a nozzle holder carrier, and at least one nozzle holder for a laser nozzle being provided on the nozzle holder carrier. The mechanical device also includes a positioning drive and a change drive, both drives having a common drive motor. Between the drive motor on the one hand and the nozzle holder carrier and the nozzle holder on the other hand, there is provided a coupling that can be switched by means of a switching device between a supply state, in which a drive connection exists between the drive motor and the nozzle holder carrier, and a change state, in which a drive connection exists between the drive motor and the nozzle holder.

Machines and tools that can be used to process (e.g., to cut and/or form) plate-like workpieces, such as metal sheets. In some aspects, a plate workpiece processing tool includes a first tool portion, which is drivingly connectable to a stroke drive, and a second tool portion. The tool has at least one processing device on the first tool portion and at least two counter-devices on the second tool portion. By using an activating device provided on the second tool portion, different device pairings can be activated for workpiece processing.

In one embodiment, a punching machine having a tool bearing, a drive spindle coupled to the tool bearing, and a drive system configured to move the tool bearing axially along a lifting axis and to rotate the tool bearing about the lifting axis, the drive system having a motor system having a stator and a rotor internally coupled to the stator and a spindle nut coupled to the rotor and cooperating with the drive spindle, wherein the spindle nut is at least partially disposed within the stator.

Machine tools are known, for forming workpieces, such as sheet metal, with tooling made of two tool halves arranged on opposite sides of the workpiece to be formed. One half of the tooling has at least one pressure element that can move against the workpiece and act on it and the other half of the tooling has at least one counter-pressure element that works with the pressure element to form the workpiece, and it is also movable against the workpiece. The movement of the pressure element against the workpiece activates the drive of the counter-pressure element in the direction opposite to the movement of the pressure element against the workpiece.

A punching machine having a workpiece guidance system and a numeric control therefor, has one or more tool holders mounted upon the transverse rail of the guidance system, and a tool mounting assembly for receiving the punch and the die from the tool holder and securing them into position for punching of sheet metal and like workpieces. The workpiece guidance system effects the motion of the tool holder forwardly to bring the tools into the tool mounting positions, and the tools are then clamped in position. The guidance system is then moved rearwardly with the empty tool holder to a position where the punching operation can be conducted. Generally, the work table and the workpiece are moved forwardly with the workpiece guidance system during the tool changing operation, and a channel is provided in the lower portion of the frame and its worktable to permit movement of the tool holder and the die below the plane of the upper surface of the worktable. Multiple tool holders may be carried upon the transverse rail of the guidance system, or a single tool holder may be mounted at the end of the transverse rail and cooperate with adjacent tool storage devices to effect automatic exchange of tool holders and associated tool sets.
