A process for producing a film of a hydrophilic polymer on the inner surfaces of a fluidic component is provided comprising subjecting the inner surfaces of the fluidic component to a physicochemical pre-treatment, contacting the inner surfaces of the fluidic component with a solution of the hydrophilic polymer, replacing the solution of the hydrophilic polymer with a gaseous medium in such a manner that firstly the inner surfaces of the fluidic component remain wetted with part of the polymer solution, and removing the solvent to produce a film of the hydrophilic polymer on the inner surfaces of the fluidic component. The hydrophilic polymer used has a surface wettability for aqueous solutions which is higher than the surface wettability of the inner surfaces of the fluidic component itself.

Process for hydrophilizing surfaces of fluidic components and systems

A measuring chamber such as a flow-through chamber includes a bottom part and a top part which are at least partially transparent to the excitation and measuring radiation and together form a measuring channel, and luminescence-optical sensor elements positioned in a sensing area. The bottom part and the top part each are provided with a longitudinal groove, together constituting the measuring channel. The sensor elements are placed in the longitudinal grooves of the bottom part and the top part, each of which elements is coated with an optical cover layer covering the entire sensing area.

Measuring chamber with luminescence-optical sensor elements

An optical measurement system for determining transmitted radiation and scattered radiation in a liquid sample contained in a capillary tube and subject to measurement radiation, is provided with a first detector picking up transmitted radiation, which is positioned close to or on the axis of the beam of measurement radiation. There is further provided a second detector for picking up scattered radiation, which is positioned at a distance from the first detector in the direction of the capillary axis. The two detectors lie on different sides of a plane which contains the capillary axis and is normal to the axis of the measurement radiation.

Optical measurement system for determination of transmitted and scattered radiation

A system for quantitative determination of the local distribution of a quantity to be measured, comprising a planar sensor film, which is applied to a measuring surface, such as the surface of a body organ, a skin area or a cell culture, and whose diffusion properties regarding a parameter to be determined are known. The sensor film contains a luminescent indicator responding to the parameter to be determined with a change of at least one optical property. The system further comprises an excitation and detection unit including means for supplying excitation radiation of at least one wavelength, an imaging detection means, preferably a CCD camera, and an evaluation unit processing the image information obtained from the excitation and detection unit. Further provided is an applicator tube to be placed on the measuring surface, whose rim facing the measuring surface is in elastic contact with the sensor film and is impervious to external radiation interfering with the detection means. At the other end facing away from the measuring surface, which may be covered with a cap, a coupling means is provided for attachment of the excitation and detection unit.

System for quantitative determination of the local distribution of a quantity to be measured

A control or calibration standard for use with instruments for the optical measurement of the hemoglobin content in blood samples, features scattering particles or beads dispersed in aqueous electrolyte solution. To prevent sedimentation of the beads during storage, they have a mean diameter of <0.6 &mgr;m, preferably about 0.3 &mgr;m, and a volume concentration of <1%, preferably <0.3%. To prevent long term agglomeration, a non-ionic surfactant with an added antioxidant can be included in the formulation.

Control or calibration standard for use with instruments for optical measurement of hemoglobin concentration in blood samples

A measuring assembly comprises a supporting element transparent to excitation and measurement radiation, which is provided with a number of preferably different luminescence-optical sensor elements on a first boundary face. Via a second boundary face excitation radiation can be picked up, and a third boundary face is used to supply measurement radiation of the sensor elements to a detector of an evaluation unit. The direction of the excitation radiation is essentially normal to that of detection. The preferably different sensor elements are connected by a common sample channel, and optical and/or temporal separation of the measurement radiation of the individual sensor elements is provided.

Measuring assembly for luminescence analysis

In a method of optically determining the total hemoglobin concentration (tHb) in non-hemolyzed whole blood, using at least two wavelengths for measuring, a first wavelength of .lambda.&lt;805 nm and a second wavelength of .lambda.&gt;805 nm is employed, such the following is valid for the absorption coefficients of hemoglobin derivatives O.sub.2 Hb and RHb at the two measurement wavelengths .lambda..sub.1 and .lambda..sub.2 : .sigma.O(.lambda..sub.1).about..sigma.R(.lambda..sub.2) and .sigma.R(.lambda..sub.1).about..sigma.O(.lambda..sub.2). The sum of absorption values A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 measured at wavelengths .lambda..sub.1 and .lambda..sub.2 will be a quantity which is proportional to the total hemoglobin concentration tHb and independent of the oxygen saturation O.sub.2sat.

Method for analyzing gaseous or liquid samples, utilizing a one-way measuring element with a measuring channel containing at least one optical or electrochemical sensor and being provided with sealing elements on either end. In order to obtain accurate measurements in a simple manner the proposal is put forward that for measuring purposes a storage medium in the measuring channel be replaced by a separating medium which should then be replaced by the sample. Sample and storage medium will remain in the measuring element when it is discarded.

One-way measuring element for analyzing gaseous or liquid samples

Method for analysing gaseous or liquid samples, utilising a one-way measuring element with a measuring channel containing at least one optical or electrochemical sensor and being provided with sealing elements on either end. Method for analyzing gaseous or liquid samples and a one-way measuring

In order to improve a one-way measuring element, which may be inserted into an analyzer for analyzing gaseous or liquid samples and which comprises a measuring channel with a measuring zone and one or more sensors located therein, the proposal is put forward that the one-way measuring element be provided with a sensor part whose measuring channel has seals on both ends, and with a sample-taking part, and that a coupling element be placed at the inlet end of the measuring channel for direct coupling of the sample-taking part containing the gaseous or liquid sample, and that the measuring channel be filled with a calibrating and storage medium prior to the measuring process, and that the calibrating and storage medium contained in the measuring channel be displaced by the sample flowing in after the sample-taking part has been coupled to the sensor part. The one-way measuring elements obtained in this way are characterized by great simplicity of design and ease of handling.
