Electrical connector

A connector assembly () for providing electricity to an electroluminescent display () that is mounted on an outer face of a carrier plate (), includes a first connector () that has an insulative body () with a rearwardly-opening slit () that receives an edge of the carrier plate, the body having inner and outer body arms () on opposite sides of the slot. The first connector also has a plurality of U-shaped contact elements () with parallel inner and outer ends () that lie in the different body arms. The outer end of each contact element engages a conductive pad () on the carrier plate but the rest of the outer end is surrounded by the outer body to safeguard against a person touching the contact element outer end. The inner end of each contact element is held spaced from the inner face of the carrier plate by the body inner arm that surrounds the inner end.

Connector mounted to display board

A contact assembly () for providing electricity to an electroluminescent display () that is mounted on an outer face of a carrier plate (). The contact assembly includes contact pads () on the outer face of the carrier plate and a first connector () that has an insulative body () and a pair of contact elements () with outer ends () that each engages one of the conductive pads (). The outer end of each contact element and the contact pads, are surrounded by an outer body portion to safeguard against a person touching the contact element outer end.

Contact assembly

A connector is described which uses a prior art standard housing but which uses a modified socket contact to enable reception of a long pin contact. The standard housing (7, FIG. 8) has a horizontal passage (28) with a rear end portion that has four ribs (9). The socket contact (4, FIG. 5) is a substantially cylindrical tube having a plurality of projections (13) on its outside that can pass between the housing ribs, with the socket contact then turned so the projections lie forward of the ribs to lock the socket contact in place. The projections permit the inside of the tube to be of substantially constant diameter to receive a long pin contact.
