A lightweight cutting tool, such as a reamer, includes a front cutting body, a front cutting ring, a center tube, a rear cutting ring and a rear machine connection member. An arm assembly of the front and rear cutting heads includes one or more leading arms, one or more trailing arms and a cutting head supported by the leading and trailing arms. The leading arms and the trailing arms curve in opposite directions. To reduce weight and moment of inertia of the reamer, a cross-sectional area of the leading arms and the trailing arms is largest proximate the sleeve member and is smallest proximate the cutting head. In addition, the front cutting body, the front and rear cutting rings and the center tube may be made by additive manufacturing. Fluid can be transported entirely through the reamer to the cutting insert/workpiece interface and the guide pad/workpiece interface.

Lightweight cutting tool

The invention relates to a cutting tool, in particular a milling tool, which comprises a tool body on which at least one cutting edge is provided. A coolant supply channel, from which at least one nozzle channel branches off fluidically, extends inside the tool body. The nozzle channel is configured to conduct coolant onto the cutting edge. A flow cross-section of the coolant supply channel is furthermore reduced in one flow direction.

Cutting tool

A tool body () for a shell end mill () is described with at least one helical chip guiding groove () arranged at the circumference of the tool body () for chip dissipation and at least two receptacles () for indexable cutting inserts () arranged at the chip guiding groove (). In this case, the receptacles () each comprise a base surface having a bore for receiving an indexable cutting insert fastening screw () and at least one first abutment surface adjacent to the base surface. The transition between the base surface and the first contact surface is a groove. In addition, a cutting tool is described with such a tool body, wherein a two-sided indexable cutting insert () is attached in each receptacle ().

Tool body for a shell end mill and cutting tool

A tool body (12) for a shell end mill (10) is described with at least one helical chip guiding groove (24) arranged at the circumference of the tool body (12) for chip dissipation and at least two receptacles (28) for indexable cutting inserts (26) arranged at the chip guiding groove (24). In this case, the receptacles (28) each include a base surface having a bore for receiving an indexable cutting insert fastening screw (34) and at least one first abutment surface adjacent to the base surface. The transition between the base surface and the first contact surface is a groove. In addition, a cutting tool is described with such a tool body, wherein a two-sided indexable cutting insert (26) is attached in each receptacle (28).

A milling cutter (), in particular a side milling cutter, is described, having a tool body (), to which at least one cutting insert () is removably secured, said cutting insert being clamped by means of a movable clamping element () in the tool body () and comprising a cutting edge () pointing in the direction of rotation (R). The clamping element () clamps the cutting insert () from behind and is arranged on the rear side of the cutting insert () in the direction of rotation (R) of the milling cutter ().

Milling cutter

A wedge clamp includes a top wall, a bottom wall, a front wall, a rear wall opposite the front wall, and a fluid port traversing from the front wall to the rear wall. The fluid port has a front opening and a rear opening to allow cooling fluid to pass therethrough. In one embodiment, the front opening is a rounded isosceles trapezoid in shape with a pair of parallel substantially planar side walls of different length and a pair of arcuate side walls connecting the pair of planar side walls. The rear opening has a greater surface area proximate the rear wall and a smaller surface area proximate the front opening, resulting in a funnel-shaped opening to cause an increase in velocity of the cooling fluid passing through the fluid port.

A method for milling a blank in the production of a turbine blade which in the final state has at least one blade root for fastening to a carrier and also an adjoining blade body extending in the longitudinal direction includes clamping the blank on its root side in a mount and machining the blank with a milling cutter. Machining the blank includes moving the milling cutter in an advancing direction for roughing machining while superimposing a circular movement as per a trochoidal milling method.

Method for milling a blank in the production of a turbine blade

A cutting insert made of cemented carbide and the use thereof for recessing or copy-turning, preferably at a high rotating speed. The cutting insert has at least one recess for insertion therein of a cutting body of a material other than cemented carbide, such as a ceramic material.
