The present invention relates to a labeling apparatus for paying out and applying self-adhesive labels, which with each operating cycle moves one self-adhesive label into a dispensing position underneath an applicator roll having a sleeve with a cylindrical jacket, via which sleeve the applicator roll is rotatably mounted on a hub. It is proposed to equip the sleeve with at least one profiled ring projecting radially outwardly beyond the cylindrical jacket. Because the profiled ring and the sleeve are made preferably of a material that is harder than the cylindrical jacket and hence ink-repellent, the printed data on the label are not smeared, in spite of the low outlay involved in the manufacture of the applicator roll.

Labeling apparatus

A manual, or hand-held labelling device has a printing apparatus and a pivoting lever on which pivoting lever there is a journal pivot pin on which an inking roller can be loosely mounted. For axially securing the inking roller on the journal pivot pin, within the housing of the manual labelling device, there can be at least one raised, guide track in the form of a circular arc, on the housing of the labelling device, and on the side opposite to the pivoting lever. This guide track essentially corresponds to the path of the inking roller on the pivoting lever as the pivoting lever is moved during a labelling operation, and thus supports the inking roller from moving axially off of the pivot pin during movement of the pivoting lever during the labelling operation.

Hand-held portable labelling device and the inking roller mounting

A means is described with the aid of which a label strip can be introduced into a label printing and/or label dispensing apparatus (10). The label printing and/or label dispensing apparatus (10) includes a transport wheel (38) which is surrounded by a cover (35). The label strip (25) must be introduced into the gap between the periphery of the transport wheel (38) and the cover (35). The distance between the inner surface of the cover (35) and the transport wheel (38) is dimensioned in a first region so that only a frictional force is exerted on the strip when the transport wheel (38) moves so that frictional entrainment of the label strip (25) results. In a second region, directly following the first region, the distance is so great that no deformation takes place between the label strip (25) and the transport wheel (38), and in a third region adjoining the second region the distance is so dimensioned that driver teeth (39) disposed on the periphery of the transport wheel (38 ) penetrate through the label strip (25) so that a form-locking engagement results.

Means for supplying a label strip

A labeling apparatus (10) is described with the aid of which labels can be imprinted and/or dispensed. The apparatus comprises a housing (12) in which a transport means for a label strip is disposed. The label strip runs in the apparatus (10) from a supply roll (26) round a deflection edge (32), then along a housing bottom (30) adapted to be pivoted out of the housing (12) to a transport roll carried by the housing bottom (30) and pivotal about an axis (52) to an exit slot, a drive connection existing between the transport roll (38) and an operating lever (16) pivotal between a rest position and a pulled position. The drive connection includes a rack (50) which is in engagement with a pinion (54) mounted on the shaft (52) of the transport roll (38) and is articulately connected to one arm (48) of a two-armed pivot lever (46) which is pivotal about an axis (44) stationary with respect to the axis ( 52) of the transport wheel (38). The two arms (42, 48) of the pivot lever (46) are arranged in the pivot path of the operating lever (16) in such a manner that on pivoting thereof a movement transmission to the arm (42) of the two-armed pivot lever (46) takes place while on return of the operating lever (16) into its rest position a transmission from the operating lever (16) to the other arm (48) of the pivot lever (42) takes place.

Labelling apparatus

A hand labeling device is described with the aid of which in the course of an operating cycle self-adhering labels can be imprinted, dispensed and attached to articles. The operating cycle is controlled by means of an operating lever (26) pivotal out of a rest position into a pulled or squeezed position. In a device housing a printing mechanism (34) is arranged which comprises print types for producing an imprint on a self-adhering label disposed in a printing position. By a transport means (22) the self-adhering labels can be brought consecutively into the printing position and into the position for attachment to the articles. An inking device serves for inking the print types of the printing mechanism (34) before each printing operation; said device comprises an inking roll (46) which is held by a stirrup (51) pivotally mounted in the device housing and which on pivoting of the stirrup member (51) rolls on the print types of the printing mechanism (34). For producing a pivot movement about an axis (50) the stirrup member (51) is in drive connection with a rod (66), the displacement of which is controlled by the operating lever (26).

Hand labeling device

A hand labeling device is described with the aid of which self-adhering labels in the course of an operating cycle can be imprinted, dispensed and attached to articles. In a device housing a printing mechanism (34) is arranged for producing an imprint on a self-adhering label disposed in a printing position. A transport means (22) brings the self-adhering labels consecutively into the printing position and into the position for application to the articles. The printing types of the printing mechanism (34) are inked with the aid of an inking device before each printing operation, said device including an inking roll (46) which is adapted to roll on the print types and which is rotatably mounted in an inking roll holder (48) which during the rolling of the inking roll on the print types is guided in a guideway (54) in the housing by means of guide pins (52, 53) extending parallel to the inking roll. The guideway (54) comprises an exit opening (64) for the guide pins (52, 53) on the inking roll holder (48) and on the device housing (10) a flap (56) is provided which is pivotal between a closed and an open position and on which at least one extension (60) is disposed which in the closed position of the flap (56) closes the exit opening (64) of the guideway (54).

A labeling device is described with the aid of which self-adhering labels (6) can be imprinted, dispensed and attached to articles. The device includes a printing mechanism (16) having printing types (27) and a means for inking the printing types which includes a pivot member (21) rotatably mounted about a pivot pin (22) and an inking roll (26) which is connected to said member (21) and which prior to each printing operation by pivoting of the pivot member (21) is rolled along the printing types (27) for transferring ink. The inking roll (26) is mounted in an inking roll holder (25) which is adapted to be fitted onto the pivot member (21) in a direction extending radially with respect to the pivot axis (22) of the pivot member (21). At the contact face between the inking roll holder (25) and the pivot member (21) detent means (35, 36) are disposed which secure the inking roll holder (25) in the fitted position on the pivot member (21). The inking roll holder (25) secures the inking roll (26) in a direction extending tangentially to a circle about the pivot axis (22) spaced from the area of which the inking roll holder (25) is fitted onto the pivot member (21).

Labeling device

An apparatus is described by which a label bearing tape can be transported intermittently in a manually operated labeler. The device contains a transporting carriage (19) reciprocable along the label bearing tape (5). In the carriage a latch (22) with a clamping face (25) is held in frictional engagement with the label bearing tape so that during movement of the carriage in one direction it freely slides on the label bearing tape, while during movement of the carriage in the other direction it clamps the label bearing tape against an abutment surface (26) with self-locking action. The clamping face of the latch is covered with abrasive paper, preferably with an aluminous abrasive paper.

The present machine is intended for the printing of selected characters on labels borne by a continuous tape (13) passing over a print table (11) and driven by a chassis (22) imparted a reciprocating movement by the operating of a trigger. In order to prevent the strip of labels from being pulled towards the outside at the time of the pulling off of the label said machine has a hand brake (28, 30) located in front of the print table. This brake comprises a pivoting brake shoe (28) which is placed out of operation during the transport stroke of the continuous strip (13) by an interceptor (32) which is fastened to the transport chassis (22). This arrangement is established in order to permit a precise and effective braking action without requiring recourse to tolerances which are incompatible with mass production.

Portable labeling machine

The machine comprises a print table (8) and a print head (3) which are intended for the printing of characters on labels (11) borne by a continuous strip (10). The print head (3) comprises a pusher (32), a lateral stop (29) and two detention notches (30, 31), and the print table (8) has a rotary cam (33) with return prism (34) and cocking spring (35), having three lifts (38). Upon the typing, one lift is turned by the pusher (32) and the following lift comes laterally against the stop (29). When the print head rebounds, this lift engages in a notch (30) and holds the print head spaced from the print table. This arrangement is provided to prevent a second printing of characters on the labels as a result of rebound. In a variant, the rotary cam is replaced by a reciprocating bolt.

Handle for a labelling apparatus

The machine intended for printing two lines of characters of different color (8, 9) on self-adhesive labels comprises two printheads mounted in a rocking housing (7). This housing comprises two holding elements (14, 16) engaged in two guide slots (17, 19), and a drive finger (15) engaged in a fork (18) of a drive lever (13) actuated by a trigger (3). The slots have shapes which are so adapted that upon the printing impact of the two lines of characters on a print platen (12) the rocking of the housing is transformed into a translation which is not affected by the play and movements of the drive lever and is oriented towards the print platen. Two inking rollers of different color (22, 23) are mounted in a common retractable support (24) by means of a mechanism (26, 29, 30) intended to assure the selective inking of the two lines of characters.

The machine is intended for the printing of selected characters on self-adhesive labels (5) forming a continuous series borne by a support strip (8). The inner circuit of this strip passes via a loop defined by an edge (11) at the level of which each label (5), after printing, is advanced by a step corresponding to its length, is separated from the support strip, and is directed below a pressure roller (12) in order to be glued by pressure onto an article to be labeled. In order to prevent the falling of the printed label before its gluing and in order to present it flat below the pressure roller (12) there are provided a cambering device which comprises two guides (20, 21) between which the label is stiffened by cambering in the direction of its displacement and the pressure roller itself, under which the edges of the label which have been raised by the cambering are brought downward.
