The present disclosure relates to a dialyzer comprising a bundle of semipermeable hollow fiber membranes which is suitable for blood purification, wherein the dialyzer has an increased ability to remove larger molecules while at the same time it is able to effectively remove small uremic toxins and efficiently retain albumin and larger proteins. The invention also relates to using said dialyzer in hemodialysis.

Hemodialyzer for blood purification

The present disclosure relates to semipermeable membranes which are suitable for blood purification, e.g. by hemodialysis, which have an increased ability to remove larger molecules while at the same time effectively retaining albumin. The membranes are characterized by a molecular retention onset (MWRO) of between 9.0 kD and 14.5 kD and a molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of between 55 kD and 130 kD as determined by dextran sieving curves and can be prepared by industrially feasible processes excluding a treatment with salt before drying. The invention therefore also relates to a process for the production of the membranes and to their use in medical applications.

The present invention concerns an implantable access device and a method for preparing the device. According to the invention the device comprises a shape memory base structure with a biological substructure suitable for cell adhesion, cell engraftment and proliferation for use in transferring and transporting fluid mixtures (blood, suspensions, drug formulations, emulsions, cell suspensions) in/into/out of a human or animal body.

A device for applying a lock solution in a catheter or other access system comprises a syringe () having an expulsion arrangement () for expelling the lock solution from the device, said expulsion arrangement including a plunger () arranged in a housing (), further comprising a sterile connector () for connecting the syringe () to the catheter. The present invention includes a co-polymer film which can be applied over a surface of an article to form a continuous surface that is more biocompatible and has a smoother surface morphology than an untreated article. In general the co-polymer film of the invention can be formed by providing a hydrophobic polymer block, such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with functional &#x2014;OH end groups and reacting the &#x2014;OH ends with a conventional monomer or prepolymer of a film-forming polymer capable of reacting with &#x2014;OH groups. Such reactions are exemplified, using as reactive PDMS a triblock copolymer of the polylactone-polysiloxane-polylactone (PL-PDMS-PL) type, or silicone polyesters. The &#x2014;OH groups of the polylactone blocks can react with any of a variety of isocyanates in a suitable solvent to form a polymer having PDMS incorporated with its structure. The film can be applied to the surface of an article by any convenient means of coating the article with the reaction mixture in solvent, and allowing the solvent to evaporate.
