A masterbatch composition suitable for use as a flame retardant in extruded polymer foams, and process for manufacturing the same, and extruded foams containing same; the composition comprising: (a) 20 to 40 parts by weight base resin comprising styrene homopolymer or copolymer; (b) 1 to 16 parts by weight acid scavenger comprising an epoxy-based compound; (c) 2 to 6 parts by weight antioxidant comprising an alkyl or aryl phosphite; and (d) 45 to 60 parts by weight flame retardant comprising a non-hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) brominated polymer or copolymer, wherein the amounts of (a), (b), (c), and (d) total 100 parts by weight; and (e) 0.6 to 10 parts by weight of pH moderator, based on 100 parts of (a) base resin plus (e) water soluble pH moderator.

The present disclosure provides a pellet. In an embodiment, the pellet includes a body having a first end and an opposing second end. The body is composed of a polymeric material. The body has a length and a diameter (body diameter). A channel having a diameter (channel diameter), extends through the body from the first end to the second end. The pellet has a channel diameter-to-body diameter ratio from 0.05 to 0.45. The present disclosure also provides a process for soaking the pellet in a liquid additive and forming a loaded pellet with the additive in the pellet body.

Integral layered articles and their method of manufacture

A resin including up to 99.99 weight percent (wt. %) of a first polyolefin grafted with a functional group selected from an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid anhydride, an ester functional group or a combination thereof; and 0.01 to 3.0 wt. % of a tin oxide-based catalyst, where the resin includes 0.2 wt. % to 1.5 wt. % of the functional group from the first polyolefin, the wt. % based on a total weight of the resin. The first polyolefin can be selected from a polyethylene, a polypropylene, an ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer, a propylene/alpha-olefin copolymer and combinations thereof. The tin oxide-based catalyst can be selected from dibutyltin oxide, dioctyltin oxide and combinations thereof. The resin can be used in a multilayer structure, where a Layer A comprises the resin and a Layer B comprises a polyester, where a first major surface of Layer A is in adhering contact with the second major surface of Layer B.

The microporous polymer film comprises: one or more polypropylene copolymer, said polypropylene copolymer comprising one or more polypropylene homopolymer chain segments and one or more ethylene-containing copolymer chain segments; wherein the microporous polymer film comprises: (i) polypropylene homopolymer chain segments in total amount of from 50-82 wt. %, based on the weight of the microporous polymer film; (ii) one or more ethylene-containing copolymer chain segments in total amount of from 18-50 wt. %, based on the weight of the microporous polymer film, wherein at least a portion of the ethylene-containing copolymer chain segments comprises polymerized units of ethylene in an amount of at least 45 wt. %, based on the weight of the ethylene-containing copolymer chain segments.

In one aspect, a multilayer film comprises multilayer film comprising at least 3 layers, each layer having opposing facial surfaces and arranged in the order A/B/C, wherein a top facial surface of Layer B is in adhering contact with a bottom facial surface of Layer A; wherein a top facial surface of Layer C is in adhering contact with a bottom facial surface of Layer B, wherein the film is oriented in the machine direction and wherein the film exhibits a normalized carbon dioxide transmission rate of at least 3000 cm&#xb7;mil/100 in/day, and wherein the film exhibits a ratio of the carbon dioxide transmission rate to an oxygen transmission rate of at least 4.0.

The present disclosure provides a flexible pouch. In an embodiment, the flexible pouch includes opposing flexible films. The flexible films define a common peripheral edge. A microcapillary strip is sealed between the opposing flexible films. A first side of the microcapillary strip is located at a first side of the common peripheral edge and a second side of the microcapillary strip located at a second side of the common peripheral edge. A peripheral seal extends along at least a portion of the common peripheral edge. The peripheral seal comprises a sealed microcapillary segment. The peripheral seal forms a closed flexible pouch having a storage compartment. A liquid is present in the storage compartment.

The present disclosure provides a die assembly for producing a microcapillary film. The die assembly includes a first die plate, a second die plate, a plurality of multi-jackbolt tensioners connecting the first die plate to the second die plate, a manifold, and a plurality of nozzles. The manifold is located between the pair of die plates and defines a plurality of film channels therebetween. The plurality of film channels converge into an elongate outlet, wherein a thermoplastic material is extrudable through the plurality of film channels and the elongate outlet to form a microcapillary film. The plurality of nozzles are located between the plurality of film channels. The plurality of nozzles are operatively connected to a source of channel fluid for emitting the channel fluid between layers of the microcapillary film, whereby a plurality of microcapillary channels are formed in the microcapillary film.
