Systems and methods for audio listening devices, comprise a speaker coupled to a first housing, a sound port having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end is coupled to the first housing, and the second end is configured to be inserted in an ear canal of a person such that sound waves emitted from the speaker propagates via a secondary path to the ear canal through the sound port, active noise cancellation (ANC) components configured to generate anti-noise signals through the micro-speakers to cancel external noise, and a first microphone disposed within the sound port at the second end of the sound port such that the first microphone is configured to detect the anti-noise signal that propagates through the sound port via the secondary path and the external noise that propagates via a primary path.

An on-ear headphone includes an alignment structure extending into the user's concha to help the user to align the headset for optimal comfort and sound perception. The alignment minimizes sound leakage, optimizes audio playback, and improves active noise cancelation.

An active noise cancellation system has a secondary path including a loudspeaker configured to output an anti-noise signal to cancel noise in a noise cancellation zone, and an error microphone configured to sense sound in the noise cancellation zone. The ANC system further includes a logic device configured to adaptively generate the anti-noise signal for playback through the loudspeaker based at least in part on a feedback signal from the error microphone and identify a user of the active noise cancellation system based, at least in part, on a measured frequency response of the secondary path. The logic device is further configured to identify the user of the active noise cancellation system through a comparison of the measured frequency response of the secondary path to stored models and may be configured to execute a new user enrollment process, store user profiles, and/or switch between in-ear and open-air states.

Secondary path identification for active noise cancelling systems and methods

Active noise cancellation systems and methods include a feedforward path configured to receive a reference signal comprising ambient noise and adaptively generate an anti-noise signal to cancel the ambient noise and comprising an adaptive gain component configured to adaptively adjust a gain of the anti-noise signal, and a logic device configured to determine a leakage profile based on the adaptive gain component. The feedforward path includes a feedforward adaptive filter tuned to generate the anti-noise signal corresponding to the reference signal in accordance with the determined leakage profile. The leakage profile is selected from a plurality of stored leakage profiles that are tuned for a corresponding gain, and which corresponds to an ear coupling condition associated with a fit between the active noise cancellation system and a user. An adaptive transparency filter receives the reference signal and generates an ambient inclusion signal for output to a user.

Active noise cancelling based on leakage profile

A self-calibration system may include a housing including a first calibration circuit configured to coordinate with a second calibration circuit to execute a calibration sequence for an active noise cancelling (ANC) earphone. The housing further includes a cavity configured to accommodate the ANC earphone, wherein the cavity is contoured to simulate the ANC earphone in a user's ear. The housing further includes a calibration microphone coupled with the first calibration circuit and configured to measure calibration sound waves from the ANC earphone, and a calibration speaker configured to emit calibration sound waves to the ANC earphone.

System and method for self-calibrating audio listening devices

Speaker performance may be improved by increasing the effective acoustic chamber volume by fluidically connecting a speaker chamber containing a speaker with a mechanical housing. Additionally, the performance of left and right speakers may be balanced. Such balancing may be through equalization of the left and right speakers, balancing the acoustic impedance through sizing the openings between the speaker chambers and mechanical housings, and/or balancing of acoustic volumes within the speakers through use of ballast or acoustic expansion material to increase or decrease the effective acoustic volume of one of the speakers.
