Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment (UE) device to adaptively provide enhanced the quality of service (QoS) for an application. The UE may request a dedicated bearer or flow for communications conducted over a network between a UE application and a server associated with the application. The UE may use various information, including a QoS profile associated with the application, to determine requested QoS parameters and/or determine whether to provide the enhanced QoS functionality, e.g., whether to request the dedicated bearer/flow from the network. These techniques may tend to provide more appropriate QoS to the application, which may improve user experience.

UE assistance application detection and policy control in QoS deployment

A method for handling received packets is described. The method includes receiving a packet over a wireless connection, determining whether the packet is received within a reordering window, the reordering window defining a window size to receive data, when the packet is received outside the reordering window, determining whether the packet is a transmission control protocol (TCP) packet and when the packet is a TCP packet, delivering the TCP packet to a TCP/Internet Protocol (IP) stack.

WiFi TCP performance in multi-radio coexistence cases

A mobile device receives an invitation to commence a media session. The invitation may be from a legitimate caller or from a spoofing caller. The mobile device checks parameters using templates to evaluate a consistency of the invitation with respect to a database in the mobile device. The templates include session protocol, network topology, routing, and social templates. Specific template data includes standardized protocol parameters, values from a database of the mobile device and phonebook entries of the mobile device. Examples of the parameters include capabilities, preconditions, vendor equipment identifiers, a hop counter value and originating network information. The originating network information may be obtained from the database by first querying an on-line database to determine a network identifier associated with caller identification information in the invitation. Then, the obtained carrier identifier is used as an index into a database to obtain template data characteristic of the identified originating network.

Detection of spoofed call information

Apparatus and methods to support parallel communication using multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device via multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) are disclosed. A representative method includes establishing a connection with a first wireless network via a first wireless cellular protocol software stack for a first subscriber identity associated with a first subscriber identity module; registering with a second wireless network via a second wireless cellular protocol software stack for a second subscriber identity associated with a second subscriber identity module; and receiving radio frequency signals from the second wireless network via the second wireless cellular protocol software stack in parallel with communicating with the first wireless network via the first wireless cellular protocol software stack. The first and second wireless cellular protocol software stacks share at least a portion of radio frequency wireless circuitry for communicating with the first and second wireless network respectively.

Methods and apparatus to support parallel communication for multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device

Apparatus and methods to manage data connections to multiple wireless networks in a wireless communication device supporting multiple subscriber identities via multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) are disclosed. A representative method includes detecting an application request to establish a data connection; obtaining a preference for prioritization of data connections for the multiple SIMs; and based on the preference, establishing the data connection with a wireless network associated with one of the multiple SIMs. In representative embodiments, the preference is based on a user specified or default prioritization of the multiple SIMs, an order of radio access technologies (RATs), one or more quality metrics, data rates supported, and/or availability of wireless local area networks for the data connections.

Methods and apparatus to manage data connections for multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device

Apparatus and methods to support multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device are disclosed. A representative method includes the wireless communication device communicating with a first wireless network via a first wireless cellular protocol software stack for a first subscriber identity provided by a first subscriber identity module; communicating with a second wireless network via a second wireless cellular protocol software stack for a second subscriber identity provided by a second subscriber identity module; and sharing mobility management tasks between the first and second wireless cellular protocol software stacks when the first and second subscriber identity modules are each associated with the same wireless network provider either as a serving carrier or as a roaming carrier. Mobility management tasks that are shared include one or more of paging channel monitoring, measuring a serving cell and/or neighbor cells, evaluating cell reselection and handover options, and reading broadcast channels.

Methods and apparatus to support multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device

In embodiments, a client station operates to identify and prioritize time-sensitive short-range wireless packets, such as time-sensitive Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE) packets, in a congested wireless environment. The client station may identify time-sensitive packets using, e.g., the type of device providing the packets, a state of the device providing the packets, and/or the type of data included in the packets. The client station may prioritize the time-sensitive packets in various ways, including by providing priority scheduling to the time-sensitive packets; pausing communication of other types of Bluetooth packets, such as A2DP packets; reducing a data rate of other types of Bluetooth packets, such as A2DP packets; and/or extending a data packet size of time-sensitive BTLE packets. The time-sensitive packets may thus be prioritized over packets associated with the same wireless protocol and/or a different wireless protocol.

Prioritizing short-range wireless packets for time-sensitive applications

Apparatus and methods to reuse wireless circuitry to communicate with multiple wireless networks to support multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device are disclosed. A representative method includes receiving signaling messages for a second subscriber identity from a second wireless network while connected to a first wireless network for a first subscriber identity. A portion of radio frequency wireless circuitry is reconfigured to communicate with the second wireless network to establish a signaling channel and respond to signaling messages received from the second wireless network. The portion of radio frequency wireless circuitry is reconfigured between the first and second wireless networks to maintain a connection with the first wireless network while also receiving from the second wireless network limited information that can be provided to a user. Representative information includes an indication of an originator of a mobile terminated connection request and short message service data.

Methods and apparatus to reuse wireless circuitry for multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device

A method, system, and apparatus are described for managing a device in a mixed wireless communication system. A device may decide to scan or not scan for a cell based on (or at least on) updating information. The updating information may be used together or individually. The updating information may be maintaining a time window in conjunction with a device's motion status, maintaining a list that tracks cell identity in areas of non-service, or utilizing network deployment information.

Device management in a mixed wireless communication system

A method for selectively reading system information is provided. The method can include a wireless communication device reading system information broadcast by a first cell in a cell group. The read system information can include cell group information identifying the first cell as a member of the cell group and indicating membership of the cell group. The method can further include the wireless communication device moving to a second cell; determining based on the cell group information that the second cell is a member of the cell group; and in response to determining that the second cell is also a member of the cell group, reading only a portion of system information broadcast by the second cell. The read portion of system information can include the system information broadcast by the second cell that is different from the system information broadcast by the first cell.

Selective system information reading

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that processes network packets. Upon receiving a first Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) header for a first TCP segment from a network link, the system immediately provides a portion of the first TCP header to a transport layer prior to receiving all payload data for the first TCP segment. Next, the system uses the transport layer to transmit a first acknowledgment of the first TCP segment to the network link, wherein the first acknowledgment reduces a round-trip time (RTT) associated with the first TCP segment.

Reducing round-trip times for TCP communications

A multi-mode communication device having a scan optimizer capable of prioritizing scan frequencies for different radio access technologies (RATs) during a network search. The scan frequency prioritization may be based on various network coverage considerations associated with RAT availability, RAT density within a region, geographic location, historic attachment for the multi-mode device, an operation mode of the multi-mode device, etc. The multimode device can utilize its scan optimizer to generate an optimized scan schedule to be employed for a limited duration during a network search to improve its likelihood of success in detecting and/or attaching to a network associated with a prioritized RAT. A default scan schedule having equal scan frequency prioritization can be employed by the multi-mode device at a time when the limited duration of the optimized scan schedule expires and no networks associated with a prioritized RAT have been acquired.

Scheduling prioritized network searches for a multi-mode communication device

Management of unwanted phone calls and/or text messages can be performed by allowing a user to create a personalized list of unwanted calls and/or text messages at the user's device and synchronizing that personalized list between a storage system in the user's device and a remote storage in a network to which the device can be coupled. In one embodiment, the remote storage can be a cloud based backup system for the user's contacts and content and the user can access a full list of the unwanted phone numbers through a web server but the full list is not accessible on the device except through a web browser that retrieves the full list from the web server.
