Disclosed herein are compounds of formula I:X-(L-Z)-L-R[L-(Z-L)-Y]&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)wherein L is a perfluoropolyether;R is q can be an integer equal to or greater than 1;p can independently be integers from 0 to 7;X and Y can independently be chosen from: &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;CHCHOH, CHCHOCHCHOH, &#x2014;CHCH(OH)CHOH, &#x2014;CH, &#x2014;CHCH, &#x2014;CHCH(OH)CH, F, &#x2014;CF, &#x2014;CFCF, piperonyl, triazine, benzotriazole, and derivatives thereof; andZ, if present, can independently be chosen from: &#x2014;CH&#x2014;, &#x2014;CHCHCH&#x2014;, &#x2014;CHCH(OH)CH&#x2014;, &#x2014;CHCH(OH)CHCH(OH)CH&#x2014;, &#x2014;CH(OH)CH(OH)CH&#x2014;, &#x2014;CH(CHOH)&#x2014;, or &#x2014;CH(CH)&#x2014;.

Lubricants for data storage

Compositions including one or more a central cores having a cyclic group, and a plurality of arms extending from the central cores, wherein the arms comprise perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs) or its derivatives. Methods of preparing the compositions are also provided. Methods of preparing storage media that incorporate the compositions therein are further provided.
