A garment structure in the form of a brassiere, halter-top, or bathing suit for supporting an individual's breasts, and methodology for wearing the same that has a flexible breast support piece, a left and a right bottom connector and a left and right side connector. The garment structure may also include an additional left and right bottom connector and an additional left and right side connector. The connectors may be in a variety of forms such as hooks, eyes, buttons, openings, snaps, and rings, and are adapted to receive a variety of support components that may be in the form of straps, beads, or a scarf. The appearance of the garment structure may altered by changing the configuration of the support components.

Breast support garment system and method therefor

Detection of bindable substances such as antibodies and antigens using enzyme linked immunosorbent assays having particular utility in home diagnostic applications. The preferred implementation of the invention is characterized by the steps of admixing a sample suspected of containing the bindable substance to be detected with an antibody-enzyme conjugate, immersing an antibody coated solid support into the mixture and then exposing the coated support to an activated chromogenic solution. The conjugate for use in the home diagnostic assay is preferably contained within a lyophilized mixture. The lyophilized mixture contains components which preserve the antibody-conjugate's reactivity and immunologic binding specificity even if the lyophilized mixture had been subjected to hot, humid environmental conditions. Active components in the lyophilized mixture include polyethylene glycol, sugars, and surfactant. The antibody coated support is treated with an improved blocking solution containing a blocking agent such as bovine serum albumin or milk protein in admixture with a sugar. The blocking solution prevents nonspecific binding of immunologic reagents to the support and protects the antibody on the support from loss of reactivity and immunologic binding specificity even if the antibody coated support had been subjected to hot, humid environmental conditions.

Enzyme immunoassays and immunologic reagents

Cells are normally separated by velocity sedimentation and/or density gradient centrifugation, counter current distribution or selective agglutination. The cells may also be separated using a multi-sectioned plastic sleeve defined by a plurality of plastic cylinders with screens and O-rings therebetween and a retaining plate at the top end of the cylinders. These methods present various problems including a large variation in the sizes of cells isolated in any fraction, high costs of materials, and/or exposure of the cells to air immediately following separation. These problems are overcome by means of a simple cell separator which permits separation on the basis of size, and which is sealed maintaining a sterile environment during the separation process. The separator includes an elongated, tubular casing with an open upper end and a closed lower end, an elongated, tubular column for insertion into the casing, the column having a closed upper end and an open lower end, the column including a plurality of separate interconnectable tubular sections for releasably supporting cup-shaped filters between adjacent sections, and a flange on the uppermost section for sealing engagement with the upper end of the casing. Cells in a liquid medium are introduced into the column through an inlet duct in the close upper end of the column. The cells are separated by means of the filters, and the liquid medium is discharged through an outlet duct in the lower end of the casing. Thus, the column can be inserted and removed from the casing as a unit, and disassembled from the upper or lower end thereof.

Immunoassay detection of bacterial diseases, bacteria, and microorganisms using a deionized water collection medium. The preferred enzyme immunoassay is of particular use in clinical or home testing application for detection of bacteria such as gonococcus, antigens derived from such bacteria, and antibodies against the bacteria. A colorimetric detection technique may be employed using chromogenic solutions containing tetramethylbenzidine or water soluble derivatives of tetramethylbenzidine.

Colorimetric detection of bindable substances such as antibodies and antigens using chromogens of improved sensitivity and stability. The chromogens take the form of activated solutions containing tetramethylbenzidine or water soluble derivatives of tetramethylbenzidine. Such chromogens are of particular use in home testing applications for detection of antigens such as human chorionic gonadotropin, human luteinizing hormone, and gonococcus bacteria, as well as the detection of antibodies for these substances.
