A test method for foamed cement does not transfer the test composition under pressure from one device to another and the equipment is not handled under dangerous pressure, thereby providing a safe test method. Steps include: rotating a paddle at a first speed in a pressurized foamable cement composition in a receptacle in a high pressure, high temperature chamber such that the foamable cement composition becomes a foamed cement; rotating the paddle at a second speed in the pressurized foamed cement for a selected time period; maintaining the foamed cement static after the selected time period and increasing temperature in the chamber during a foamed cement setting period; thereafter reducing temperature in the chamber and reducing pressure in the chamber; removing the foamed cement in a set condition and the paddle from the chamber; removing the set foamed cement from the paddle; and testing the removed foamed cement.

Evaluating foamed cement under pressure and temperature

A high temperature viscosifying and fluid loss controlling additive for use in well cements, well cement compositions including the additive and methods of using the compositions are provided. The well cement compositions of this invention are comprised of a hydraulic cement, water and a viscosifying and fluid loss controlling additive comprising a mixture of a polymer comprised of at least one monomer which is calcium tolerant, anionic and disperses basic cement slurries, at least one monomer which hydrolyzes in basic cement slurries to generate anionic carboxylate groups that bind with calcium and viscosify the slurries and at least one monomer which generates non-ionic pendant groups on the polymer upon hydrolyzing in basic cement slurries to prevent polymer precipitation and a homopolymer of a monomer which hydrolyzes in basic cement slurries to generate anionic carboxylate groups that bind with calcium, viscosify the slurries and prevent settling in the slurries.

High temperature viscosifying and fluid loss controlling additives for well cements, well cement compositions and methods

Set-activated cementitious compositions and methods of using such compositions in cementing subterranean zones penetrated by well bores are provided. The compositions are basically comprised of water, particulate condensed silica fume suspended in the water; a dispersing agent for facilitating the dispersal of the silica fume particles in the water and maintaining the particles in suspension therein, a set-activator and a set delaying additive for increasing the time in which the composition sets after the set-activator is combined therewith.

The present invention provides improved soil-cement compositions and methods of forming subterranean cementitious masses using the compositions. The soil-cement compositions are basically comprised of hydraulic cement, water present in the compositions in amounts sufficient to form slurries of the solids therein, a dispersant comprised of a mixture of sodium dihydrogen phosphate buffer, ferrous lignosulfonate, ferrous sulfate and tannic acid and soil present in an amount whereby the volume ratio of cement, water and dispersant to soil in the compositions is in the range of from about 0.3:1 to about 2.1:1.

A composition for and method of performing primary cementing operations is disclosed. The method comprises the use of a water slurry of a thixotropic cementing composition which rapidly develops sufficient static gel strength to reduce if not eliminate annular gas migration.
