A method includes detecting, at an electronic device (ED) providing a virtual assistant (VA), an input that triggers the VA to perform a task that comprises outputting media content through an output device associated with the ED. The method includes detecting a presence of at least one registered user in proximity to the ED. Each registered user is associated with a corresponding media preferences profile. The method includes, for each detected registered user, determining whether the detected registered user is an active consumer. The method includes, in response to determining that a detected registered user is an active consumer, outputting, via the output device, media content associated with the media preferences profile of the detected registered user.

An electronic device, method, and computer program product enable orienting a user interface on a display device to a detected orientation of a face. The display device presents the user interface in a default display orientation. An image capture device captures an image. A memory contains a display orientation application. A controller is communicatively coupled to the display device, the image capture device, and the memory. The controller executes the display orientation application to enable the electronic device to provide functionality of orienting the user interface. The image captured by the image capture device is received and a face is identified within the image. An orientation of the face is determined relative to the default display orientation of the display device. At least a portion of the user interface is presented on the display device in a second display orientation that correlates to the orientation of the face.

A method includes detecting an input that triggers a virtual assistance (VA) on an electronic downdevice (ED) to perform a task that includes outputting audio content through a speaker associated with the ED. The method includes identifying a type of the audio content to be outputted through the speaker. The method includes determining whether a registered user of the ED is present in proximity to the ED. Each registered user is associated with a unique user identifier. The method includes, in response to determining that no registered user is present in proximity to the ED, outputting the audio content via the speaker at a current volume level of the ED. The method includes in response to determining that a registered user is in proximity to the ED, outputting the audio content at a selected, preferred volume level based on pre-determined or pre-established volume preference settings of the registered user.

Context based volume adaptation by voice assistant devices

A caller initiates, via a caller device, a voice call with a callee, which is received at a callee computing device. The callee computing device audibly announces the voice call, and the callee can respond to the announcement with a voice input that indicates to accept the voice call and that the voice call will be public at the callee computing device. In response, the callee computing device answers the voice call and mutes voice communication from the caller to the callee. A pre-generated message is played back to the caller via the voice call, notifying the caller that the voice call will be public at the callee computing device. After playing back the pre-generated message, the callee computing device un-mutes voice communication from the caller to the callee. The voice call then proceeds with the caller and callee being able to talk to one another.
