A system, an apparatus, and a method are provided for a modular flow cytometer with a compact size. In one embodiment, the modular flow cytometry system includes the following: a laser system for emitting laser beams; a flow cell assembly positioned to receive the laser beams at an interrogation region of a fluidics stream where fluoresced cells scatter the laser beams into fluorescent light; a fiber assembly positioned to collect the fluorescent light; and a grating system including a dispersive element and a receiver assembly, wherein the dispersive element is positioned to receive the fluorescent light from the fiber assembly and to direct spectrally dispersed light toward the receiver assembly.

Compact multi-color flow cytometer

A flow-cytometer has an excitation light source generating an excitation light that excites one or more bio-cells in a bio-sample carried by a flow path to luminesce. The flow-cytometer includes a spectrum dispersive element that disperses the luminescent light generated by the bio-sample into a photo-detector array. The flow-cytometer further includes a digital signal processor (DSP) that receives signals from the photo-detector array and generates a self-triggering signal based on the luminescent light generated by the bio-cells in bio-sample. The self-triggering signal triggers data capture in the DSP to improve synchronization with the data generated from signals received from the photo-detector array.

Methods and apparatus for self-triggering flow cytometers

A system, an apparatus, and a method are provided for a modular flow cytometer with a compact size. A reliable high frequency VCSEL includes a lower distributed Bragg reflector (DBR), an active region, and an upper DBR. A cylindrical volume is etched from the upper DBR to define a mesa with a lower surface of the cylindrical volume forming an angle greater than ninety degrees with the side wall of the mesa. An isolation trench is etched in the lower surface of the cylindrical volume concentric with the mesa and extending through the active region. A portion of the side wall of the mesa and the lower surface of the cylindrical volume are proton implanted. The upper DBR is planarized using low-k dielectric materials and n and p electrical contacts are coupled to opposite sides of the active region for supplying operating current thereto.

A multichannel fiber optic module has an electromagnetic shield surrounding high frequency electrical components which is electrically and mechanically coupled to one or more guide rails near edges of a printed circuit board. The one or more guide rails of the printed circuit board include a ground trace on the top and/or bottom surfaces of the printed circuit board. The fiber optic module can be hot inserted into a module cage which has guide rail slots for mating with the guide rails of the fiber optic module. Through the guide rail slots, electromagnetic radiation from the fiber optic module is shunted to a ground plane to which the module cage is coupled on a host chassis ground. Standard singular fiber receptacles are used for the parallel data link modules to allow field cable termination.

Method and apparatus for parallel optical interconnection of fiber optic transmitters, receivers and transceivers

An optical data link using a single optical fiber for bi-directional optical communication. Bi-direction optical transceivers couple to the single optical fiber having two optical channels of communication. An optical subassembly in each optical transceiver to multiplex an optical transmit signal and demultiplex an optical receive signal within the bi-direction optical transceiver. The optical subassembly includes an optical block with an optical filter to reflect at least one wavelength of light and to allow passage of another wavelength of light. Embodiments of the optical block with the optical filter are described.

Systems, methods and apparatus for bi-directional optical transceivers
