Provided are a display apparatus and an electrically controlled light valve including a first substrate, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate, a first transparent conductive layer disposed on the first substrate, a second transparent conductive layer disposed on the second substrate, a first liquid layer disposed between the first and the second transparent conductive layers, a second liquid layer disposed between the first and the second transparent conductive layers and reflective particles. The first and the second liquid layers are respectively adjacent to the first and the second transparent conductive layers. The first liquid layer includes a polar liquid. The second liquid layer includes a non-polar liquid. Each reflective particle has a conductive body and a surface modification layer covering the conductive body. When the electrically controlled light valve is switched to a light-transmission mode, the reflective particles are evenly dispersed in the first liquid layer.

A multiple scan method for driving a display and a display therewith is provided. The multiple scan method is achieved by alternately driving the active pixels in the display twice or more times for expediting response time of these active pixels to reach the target luminance in the display. The pixels in the display are charged or discharged twice or more times within one frame period. By such design, the response time is shortened and quality for showing motion pictures is significantly improved.

A display driving device is provided, which can solve the problem of stripes occurring on a display panel when accompanied with a system, such as a notebook computer system, upon booting. The display driving device includes a single-channel pulse width modulation circuit, a boost-lowering voltage circuit, a delay circuit, and a display driver. An operation voltage signal for enabling pixels is provided to the display panel with a delay by the delay circuit, so that it is later than the logic operation voltage signal for powering the display driving device, the voltage signal for enabling the pixels and that for disabling the pixels. Thus, the above 'stripes' phenomenon can be eliminated.

Image compression, decompression and motion detection methods are described. Two temporally adjacent frame images, a previous time frame and a current time frame, are compressed in round-off and averaging techniques. Next, according to the compressed data of two corresponding pixels of the two frame images, whether or not the pixel of the current time frame image is of a motion picture is detected. If the pixel is of a motion picture, the compressed pixel data of the previous time frame image is decompressed, and an overdrive process is performed on the decompressed pixel data and the original pixel data of the current time frame image to produce an overdrive output. If the pixel is not of a motion picture, an overdrive process is not performed.

Due to lights with different wavelengths having different indexes of refraction in a liquid crystal, a retardation between lights with different wavelengths occurs and causes the problem of viewing angle of the liquid crystal display. The present invention provides a manufacturing method of light-guiding apparatus of a liquid crystal display to form light-guiding pillars having a characteristic of total reflection as a fiber. The light from back light module through the light-guiding pillars enters the liquid crystal at an incident angle smaller than 150 for reducing the retardation between lights with different wavelengths.
