A computing device includes a housing defining an aperture extending therethrough. The computing device further includes a button that includes a switch and a body. The body is at least partially disposed within the aperture and movable relative to the housing between a first position and a second position to selectively actuate the switch to cause the computing device to perform a function. The button includes a printed circuit electrically coupled to one or more processors of the computing device. The button includes an optical sensor disposed within the interior of the body and configured to obtain biometric data for determining one or more biometrics of a user.

Techniques and apparatuses directed to component shielding are described in this document. A first aspect relates to a system including a printed circuit board (PCB) oriented along a first plane, a device on the PCB, and a component shield having a wall structure oriented perpendicular to the first plane and a cover structure connected to the wall structure. The system includes a housing structure oriented along a second plane that is substantially parallel to the first plane. The first and second planes define a shielded space within which the component shield and the device reside. The system further includes a shielding layer residing at least partially between the cover and housing structures. The shielding layer has an irregular cross-section along a fourth plane perpendicular to at least one of the first or second planes and a third plane. The irregular cross-section includes a protrusion that extends from the third plane.

In a general aspect, a foldable display device may include a processor, a memory, a first housing having a first end portion and a second end portion, a first length extending between the first end portion and the second end portion of the first housing, a second housing having a first end portion and a second end portion, a second length extending between the first end portion and the second end portion of the second housing, the second length being different than the first length, a flexible display coupled to the first housing and the second housing, and a hinge assembly coupled to the first housing and the second housing for relative rotation of the first housing and the second housing. The hinge assembly may include a slider, a lever attached to the slider, a set of gears disposed on the slider, and a linkage member connecting the lever and the set of gears together. Upon the relative rotation occurring in a first direction by the second housing, the set of gears rotates and causes the lever to move translationally move the first housing in a first linear direction, and upon the relative rotation occurring in a second direction by the second housing, the set of gears rotates and causes the lever to move translationally move in a second linear direction, the second linear direction being opposite to the first linear direction.

In a general aspect, a foldable electronic device may include a processor, a memory, a first housing including a first hinge portion, a second housing, a flexible display disposed on the first housing and the second housing, a hinge assembly including a second hinge portion rotatably coupled to the first hinge portion of the first housing, wherein the hinge assembly is configured for providing relative rotation of the first housing with respect to the second housing, and a mode detector assembly configured to detect configurations of the electronic device and configured to generate a signal indicating a change of mode of operation of the display. The mode detector assembly may include at least a flexible connection member and a spring member. The spring member may be disposed in the first hinge portion of the first housing or in the second hinge portion of the hinge assembly or in the first hinge portion of the first housing and in the second hinge portion of the hinge assembly, and a portion of the flexible connection member may be disposed in the first hinge portion of the first housing.

An apparatus is provided that includes features to protect an audio transducer that receives or outputs sound from moisture. The apparatus may include a metal mesh layer having at least a first surface and a second surface. A first silica gel layer may be disposed on the first surface of the metal mesh layer. A second silica gel layer may be disposed on the second surface of the metal mesh layer. A first adhesive layer may be disposed between a first surface of a housing of the apparatus and the first silica gel layer. The adhesive layer may be used to affix the metal mesh layer, first silica gel layer, and second silica gel layer to the housing of the apparatus. The audio transducer may be spaced from the second silica gel layer.
