An optical device including an optical fiber having a longitudinal axis and an optical fiber core with a distal end having a distal terminating end configured to discharge a first laser energy in a first direction and a second laser energy in a second direction. The optical device also includes a fiber cap having an interior cavity and an opening to the interior cavity, where the distal end of the optical fiber core is received within the interior cavity through the opening. A cladding is included on the distal end of the optical fiber core between the optical fiber core and the fiber cap.

Surgical laser system and laser fiber

Aspects of this disclosure pertain to a device with an elongated body having a distal end. The distal end may comprise a port that permits discharge of a laser energy towards a tissue from an optical fiber located in the distal end. An exterior surface of the distal end may include a cauterization portion that permits discharge of a cauterization energy towards the tissue. In some aspects, the device includes an insulative portion that attaches the distal end to the elongated body and limits energy transfer therebetween. Related systems and methods are also disclosed.

One described aspect is an optical fiber comprising: a fiber core that extends along a fiber axis, is configured to transmit a laser energy along the fiber axis, and terminates at a distal end; a first cladding that extends along the fiber axis, is adjacent to the fiber core, and terminates at a distal end; a coating that extends along the fiber axis and terminates at a distal end, wherein the coating is a gold coating; a second cladding that surrounds a portion of the gold coating along the fiber axis, and terminates at a distal end; an outer jacket that extends along the fiber axis and terminates at a distal end; and a fiber tip. Medical laser fiber

Aspects of the disclosure are drawn to methods for producing a fused connector termination. An exemplary method may include setting a specification requirement to be met by the fused connector termination and applying an amount of heat to a proximal region of an unfused connector termination. The proximal region of the unfused connector termination may include an inner optical fiber coaxially positioned within an outer ferrule, and applying the amount of heat may at least partially fuse the optical fiber to the outer ferrule to form an at least partially fused connector termination. The method may also include imaging the proximal region of the at least partially fused connector termination and determining, based on the imaging, whether the proximal region of the at least partially fused connector termination meets the specification.

Methods for fusing a fiber termination

A surgical laser system () includes a first laser source (A), a second laser source (B), a beam combiner () and a laser probe (). The first laser source is configured to output a first laser pulse train (A) comprising first laser pulses (). The second laser source is configured to output a second laser pulse train (B) comprising second laser pulses (). The beam combiner is configured to combine the first and second laser pulse trains and output a combined laser pulse train () comprising the first and second laser pulses. The laser probe is optically coupled to an output of the beam combiner and is configured to discharge the combined laser pulse train.

Surgical laser systems and laser lithotripsy techniques

A laser delivery device may include a connector portion at a proximal end of the laser delivery device and an optical fiber connecting the connector portion to a distal end of the laser delivery device. The connector portion may include a capillary at least partially surrounding a proximal portion of the optical fiber, and the capillary may include dimples on at least a portion of a circumferential surface thereof.

Medical laser device and related methods

A surgical laser system includes a first laser source, a second laser source, a beam combiner and a laser probe. The first laser source is configured to output a first laser pulse train comprising first laser pulses. The second laser source is configured to output a second laser pulse train comprising second laser pulses. The beam combiner is configured to combine the first and second laser pulse trains and output a combined laser pulse train comprising the first and second laser pulses. The laser probe is optically coupled to an output of the beam combiner and is configured to discharge the combined laser pulse train.

A surgical laser tool comprises an output member that includes an output laser fiber, a probe tip, and electrical contacts. The probe tip is attached to a distal end of the output laser fiber. Electromagnetic energy transmitted through the output laser fiber is discharged through the probe tip. The electrical contacts are supported at a proximal end of the output member.

Split surgical laser fiber

A device or scope device is disclosed. The device may comprise: a handle body extending along an axis between first end and a second end; an actuator at the first end of the handle body; a catheter at the second end of the handle body; and a processing unit communicable with a plurality of devices to: switch-in the actuator for control of one device of the plurality of devices; configure, with the actuator, a setting of the one device, control, with the actuator, the one device based on the setting, and switch-in the actuator for control of another one of the plurality of devices.
